Synopsis:
Adapted from John Bayley`s memoir, Richard Eyre`s film explores the remarkable relationship between Bayley and Iris Murdoch down through the years. Kate Winslet and Hugh Bonneville play the couple in their youth when they first meet in Oxford, while Judi Dench and Jim Broadbent assume the roles in their later life. When Murdoch tragically develops Alzheimers, Bayley can only witness the degeneration of her brilliant mind and try to care for her as best he can. Beautifully acted, Iris is both a fitting tribute to a great writer and a moving love story.

A story about true love and a dreadful desease.
John loves Iris. He loves her through their youths, through their adulthood and he also loves her while she`s dealing with her Altzheimer`s desease.
Dench and Broadbent give good performances, but, alas, the script is too simple, and other than examining Iris` deterioration, nothing really happens.
The video transfer is a butchered fullscreen one. The transfer is average with numerous compression signs that can be seen especially during the dark scenes.
The DD 5.1 soundtrack is flat. The surrounds are hardly used, but since this is a drama, it is acceptable.
The menus are still with music.
The extras include a short behind the scenes featurette.
Bottom line - a sad story about love and Altzheimer, but alas, not a good disk.
