Deep Blue Sea (UK)

It`s been over a year and a half since I reviewed the region 1 disk of this movie, but lately I managed to buy the region 2 disk for pennies.
The 2 disks are identical. The movie is as entertaining as before (though some of the scares wore off).
The video transfer is good. Most of the movie is dark and the transfer does not reveal any compression signs. The CG sharks look pathetic, but the CG humans look even worse.
The DD 5.1 soundtrack is good. The surrounds are constantly used, and while the soundtrack is not too violent, it sure helps create the scary atmosphere. The musical score fits the movie like a glove.
The menus are animated with sound.
The extras include a commentary, 2 behind the scenes featurettes (quite interesting), 6 deleted scenes (nothing worth including in the movie) and a photo gallery.
Bottom line - a fun movie, especially if you`re into sharks.

Good brainless fun. Great shark effects. Not much else. Oh-apart from ((SPOILER SNIPPED))......oh wait.....you didn`t know??

Makes Jaws Look like Citizen Kane. Some of the worst acting i`ve seen in a long long time. Sam Jackson seems to feel he`d rather be somewhere else, spout off terrible dialogue. Saffron Burrows is Pretty and Pretty Vacant, she seems expressionless throughout the film.

The Shark effects look fake and obviously computer generated.

If you enjoyed jokey action/monster films like Deep Rising and Tremors then you should get a kick out of this.

Implausible stuff for sure but who cares when it`s this much fun, with a couple of genuine surprises thrown in too.

Some good extras on the DVD too.

This film has taken a bit stick since it was released, but i don`t think it is that bad. It is by no means anywhere near
`Jaws` but will any film ever be? But is it good to see another film about `sharks` and everyone concerned should be praised for having the balls to make another shark movie, for since the `Jaws` movies nobody has dared ventured into that film type, and thats nearly 30 years! There is not a great cast in this film, apart from one Sammual L Jackson who is his normal brilliant self, the rest are relativley unknown, but everyone does their bit. The picture quality is good, alot of the sharks were computer generated and at times you can tell.....but only just, otherwise everything is fine. Sound is good with plenty effects and a good music soundtrack. There are also a good few extras, a couple of featurette`s, commentary, as well as the usual trailers etc. There are also a few delected scenes, with or without commentary, and it was at this point that i realised that at least one scene has been totally chopped from the theatre version to DVD, as in most cases it was down to `time scale` but i find it a shame, for it helped build a relationship between two of the characters, and yet was not even one of the deleted scenes! Anyway this is a decent attempt of a shark movie with a few suprises up it`s sleeve, with good picture and sound and a few extras that makes for a good DVD allround. Better than average.....just.
