Synopsis:
Geophysicist Dr. Josh Keyes (Aaron Eckhart) has made a terrifying discovery: the Earth`s inner core has stopped rotating. Now the planet`s electromagnetic field is deteriorating and within months, Earth will be destroyed. One hope exists: to send Keyes and an elite team of scientists in a subterranean vessel to the center of the Earth. As mankind`s fate hangs in the balance, the scientists and the ship`s crew must do the unthinkable - detonate a nuclear device to reactivate the Earth`s core.

A good-looking, yet rather silly sci-fi thriller about a group of people trying to jump-start planet Earth. Right! :)
While the visuals are occasionally (yet not always) impressive, the plot itself is rather absurd, both scientifically and non-scientifically.
The video transfer is very good. There are no compression signs to be seen and most of the special effects look frighteningly real.
The DD 5.1 soundtrack is very good. The surrounds are constantly used during the underground scenes (plenty of those, as you can guess).
The menus are animated with sound.
The extras include a commentary by the director, a behind the scenes look, explanations about the special effects and 9 deleted scenes.
Bottom line - despite its silliness, this is a two-hour ride of fun, fun and some more fun, six (thousand) feet under.

Think Zvi has hit the nail with this review. This is a white knuckle ride of a film, dragging the viewer from start to finish, with a relish that belies a B-movie premise. Because it does not pretend to be high art, The Core proves to be watchable for the thrills it provides. I cannot see anyone putting this down as their all time fave film, but most of us will enjoy it.
