Review of WWE: Taboo Tuesday
Introduction
WWE or World Wrestling Entertainment has been with us for many years in many guises. But the basic premise is simple. It passes itself off as wrestling and sport, when it is in fact a glorified soap opera. It`s basically about marketing, merchandising, making money.
Taboo Tuesday allows WWE fans to influence the action by choosing matches and things like clothes and forfeits for the losers. Fans voted on the web during this live PPV event.
For those of you interested, here are the some of the fights contained here:-
Randy Orton vs. Ric Flair
Kane vs. Snitsky
World Tag Team Championship
Fulfill Your Fantasy Battle Royal
Christy vs. Carmella
Eugene vs. Eric Bischoff
Video
A full frame transfer converted from an NTSC source (as originally broadcast in the US). It all looks ok, and just like your average US TV DVD. There`s not really much more to say about it. Does the job, doesn`t do anything above and beyond the call of duty.
Audio
A DD2.0 stereo soundtrack which brings you some commentators who really believe in this stuff and also some rock music to give that little edge.
Features
A few more bits of promo matieral from the pre-event press conference, plus a trailer.
Conclusion
Repulsive. Repugnant. Repellant. Reprehensible. Revolting.
Those are just a few of the words that leap to mind. A glorified soap opera masquerading as a sport. People smashing each other with chairs and chains. A supposedly badly injured man being wheeled out on a stretcher, who is then attacked by his opponent again. A supposedly pregnant woman who loses a baby after being attacked by a wrestler. Female wrestlers who are told to dress up as schoolgirls before fighting.
This is not a sport. No sportsman would want to degrade themselves in this way.
This isn`t entertainment either, it`s just vile. Why would you want to pay to watch this stuff?
Please avoid this at all costs. It`s morally and culturally vacuous, and it serves no purpose other than to make a few Americans a bit richer.
