Review of Would I Lie To You / Would I Lie To You Too

    3 / 10

    Introduction

    Look into my eyes,
Can`t you see they`re open wide,
Would I lie to you baby,
Would I lie to you (oh yeah).

    Don`t you know it`s true,
Girl there`s no one else but you,
Would I lie to you baby, yeah.

That, "rubbish pop" trivia fans, was of course Would I lie to you by Charles (Pettigrew) and Eddie (Chacon), from 1992, written by Mick Leeson and Peter Vale. Why am I telling you this? Well, because it`s far more interesting than anything about these films (and that`s saying something). But I suppose I have to tell you about them too.

Not one but two French "comedies", centred around the central lie of someone posing as something they`re not, and the "hilarious" consequences when their story begins to unravel around their ears. And then they made another film based on a very similar premise. A more detailed ouline is available up above, so I won`t repeat it.

    Video

A pair of rather average 1.85:1 anamorphic transfers, much as you would expect for such average, back catalogue titles. No great levels of detail, things often look soft and wishy-washy and it`s basically just typical of the lack of care that seems to get shown for these more obscure titles on DVD.

    Audio

A pair of also pretty average DD2.0 French soundtracks, with optional subtitles. Everything is audible, and there`s nothing more to say really.

    Features

    Not a thing.

    Conclusion

Two films for the price of one. What a great bargain eh? Ermm, no. The films themselves are dreary and dull, the DVD is a very average effort. A paper thin plot is just there to cram a few feeble jokes into, as well as a few clumsy set pieces which have been much better executed by recent TV sitcoms such as Coupling.

Packaging both films together on one disc does have the effect of just turning them into one long film, and that was no fun for me, as it just prolonged the agony.

A very average video and audio transfer and no extras make this one for fans only (if there are any fans of these two films!)
