I`ve just bought an Acoustic Solutions DVD 551 which plays dvd/vcd/cd/svcd/dvcd/cd-r/cd-rw/mp3.

It outputs in Pal/Ntsc or Auto, has scart(RGB) and s-video, built in dolby, 5.1 channel output, optical and coaxial digital audio outputs.

It`s multi-region and plays RCE discs whilst set to by-pass(any region) even although the hack sheet given to me said that it would not play RCE in by-pass, only in R1 setting.

Thanks for that. Removal of macrovision isn`t too much of a problem as my chipped Samsung can deal with that.

My son would like this player for his bedroom but as it`s a fairly old TV which can`t handle Ntsc, I wanted to check the video output options. We once tried a Limit from Richers Sounds which was very jumpy when playing R1 discs as it only had Pal50(jumpy) and Ntsc(no jumpiness but B&W).

Do you know what the Acoustic is like when playing R1 discs output as Pal?

Jane have you tried any R1 discs yet? I`m having a stuttering sound problem with R1 discs when using Pal output.

Trying to figure out if the player is faulty or not?

Graham, I bought this player a couple of days ago and am quite happy except for one problem which hopefully you can help me with.

I need to output R1 discs as Pal as I only get B&W pictures in NTSC. This is fine except I`ve noticed a "stutter" on the sound on some discs, namely MI2 and Meet the Parents so far. I know the discs are ok as I`ve played them on my Samsung 909 which can also output in Pal50.

Have you found any problems with R1 discs or do I have a faulty player?

I`ve just bought this player from Richer Sounds and am perfectly happy with it. However I have 2 questions for anyone else with this player.

1. What difference does the 4:3 letterbox and pan & scan setting make? I can`t seem to get any difference at all.

2. MI2, region 1. It plays but is stuttering a bit. I have no problem with this disc in my Samsung 909.

I`m trying to see if I have a faulty player or not.
