There are a number of different methods for creating a region free player. None are easy, I`m afraid (it is Sony...) but they appear to work. Similar hacks work on other Sony players, as well.

Oh yes it can! For example, see:

Basically, you need something else with an IR port, such as a Palm/Pocket PC or a laptop, some software, and some codes to put in the software.
