RE: Sky are broadcasting in DTS 5.1 now, but are there any Digiboxes out there...

Spoke to the shop I got SKY from today, and was told Sky has no plans to do 5.1 on the "OLD" Digiboxes !?! OLD does he know something we don`t?

Anyway I only asked as my Sony has the optical link, and outputs it as PCM, so was wondering the same thing, looks like if you want 5.1, we have to PAY AGAIN!

Bit of a con really, get a box that can output digital then make it old before it`s had time.

Wait a few month, and when they see SKY+ isn`t taking off, they`ll be £100, Just like when sky first came out (btw this shop has only signed on 3 SKY+ since launch!)

RE: dvd silvers web site

Didn`t a company called "dvd silvers" get raided in the uk, and the police took away there computers with details of all the people who bought, and what they bought? sure i read it someplace?

RE: Futureent *WARNING* (but not really there fault)

Ok after a 20MIN argument with Natwest they have agreed to refund the charge "but not admitting fault".

So it payes to kick up a fuss :)

RE: Futureent *WARNING* (but not really there fault)

there was no problem with the card the "problem" was with Future ent taking money out for goods they DON`T have.

27th of November they took money out for a DVD that is out Jan 29th.

In other words you could put your order in now for a DVD out in June and they might take the money for it next week, ok if they do, you can cancell the order and it`s refunded, but as with me, if you budget your account and they take money out it can make you over drawn!

I`m now £14 out of pocket!! because of them doing this!!

this problem does NOT happen with play, they only take the money out when or after it`s sent.

So everybody who pre orderd from there new web site, check your bank statments and see if they took the money out now :)

Futureent *WARNING* (but not really there fault)

I placed an order with futureent (when the new site came online) for DVDs out in December & January...

Went to do some shopping today, and paid by my solo card "sorry sir, its been declined" what? Can you try again "sorry sir still being declined, maybe you can pay with another card?" do you take Electron "no" oh! So had to leave the shop with no shopping and looking a right tit!

Went to Natwest, and told them it had been declined, "oh yes your £2.17p over drawn and its cost you £14, HOW!? "The last 2 transactions were by a company called "personal imports" <sly look>

NOW when I started this letter, I was all for slaging FE off, but after talking to "Lee" I realise it was NATWESTs fault! for giving an unautorized overdraft!

There have been reports on other sites about FE being "rude" and "unhelpful" but he wasn`t rude or unhelpful, and infact APPOLOGIZED for the inconvinence.

So BEWARNED, when you order from FE they (computer) take the money out of your account right away, nearly, where as last time it was all done by hand when the parcel was sent, (think he said that`s being put on the site soon)

Now to lay into Natwest!!

RE: Kind about PLAY!...Honest

I`ve used Play for over a year now, and had NO problem with them, infact a few times they have honoured there prices, Karate kid trilogy for £14.99, Wizard of oz for £11.99 no other site will do that, "DVDboxoffice", Madmax SE 79cent then got an e-mail 2 weeks after whoops it should be $.. we WONT honur the mistake.

and as for the "can`t get trough, they don`t reply to emails" no probs there either.

A lot of the problems are due to the Post office, Play sent a DVD recorded last Saturday i`m still waiting, and calls to the PO are no use, "sorry we can`t track the parcel" so what`s the use of the bar-code and paying extra? "so we know if you`ve signed for it, give it 2 weeks if it`s not arrived you`ll have to fill in a missing parcel form"

So play 9/10 PostOffice 1/10

RE: evolution which region

i just got R2 today and there isn`t much as extras making of and 2 trails are the main ones, no deleted scene, special FX or stuff like that (even though some sites said there are)

So if you can wait, go for R1 (i only bought as it was a special offer (now ended) for £14.50

Euro "con"

After finding out that there are 2 R2 versions out of "101 Dalmatians" one for the UK & one for Europe (guess which is better) thought i`d write this.

Next time a dvd is released with nothing extra, instead of buying it and then moaning about it, spend the money on a stamp, and write to the company telling them you would have bought that disk, if only they had made the disk worth buying, then if you really must have it, wait for the sales or check markets for 2nd hand ones.

Look at "WB" with "Willy Wonka" first it was only going to be P&S, then after 1000`s emailed and wrote, they made it "WS" there going to release 2 versions, ok that is in the USA, but if us in the UK stood up for our selves maybe something will be done!

BTW, writing is better then emailing, as they have to open and read every letter, were as with e-mail, putting the word "complain" in there mail sort, will send your e-mail straight to the bin

RE: DISNEY DVD RELEASE DATES?

Hi, Peter Pan is out in Feb. (R1) as a Special Edition, but no details yet.

Also why are there 2 versions of 101 Dalmatians (live) out in Europe??

Uk version

Trailer
Dolby 2.0
4.3 Screen

Spanish/Europe Version

The Magic is real feature
Dog stars feature
Music video
Trailer
Connect the spots game
2.35:1 screen
Dolby digital 5.1

(not sure if there DVD also contains the bull fighting, and throwing the Donkey from the Church tower scenes, after all that is there custom)

So much for all R2s are the same!

RE: Dolby digital surrond sound bargain at Currys.

Hi, from what i read on the net, all the small speakers are sheilded, but the sub isn`t, mine is about 7" away, no problems.

Also to let you know my Local Dixons have put the price of it back up, it`s now £199.97 last week it was £157.97?

Spoke to a member of staff, due the the fact there are none avalible "within the local area" they don`t need to price match "if that was the case, if you saw it in London for £99 would you expect us to match that?" ok they have a point, BUT a loaf in Asda Blackburn costs the same as a loaf in Asda Leeds.

RE: DIXONS:thanks for nothing

If you ever have a complaint against this lot, the best thing to do is not complain to the shop, go straight to your trading standards lot.

2 years ago I bought a "Syquest" drive (bigger better then zip, bought by Iomega then dumped) from there Manchester shop, for £99.99p, when i got the box the seal was broken, but was told it was like that as they checked the contents, so i said "ok".

Got home all was fine sealed packs.. set it up, put in the storage disk, had 2 files, so opened them, had letters and porn pix from only 2 weeks before i bought it.

Phoned Dixons, "oh? err can you bring it back, we`ll give you a refund"
yea like i`m going to travel 30+ miles!

Went to trading standards, they came and looked at my "problem" and wrote a letter to head office, 3 days later a call from Manchester, asking what will be the best day and time to visit to sort my problem out.

When they came, I got a NEW Syquest, and a cheque for £99.99p

But why would they do that if they didn`t know before hand what was on the disk??? maybe a case of "one of our staff is to blame, he/she owned up"

RE: co-ax or optical ?

Thanks for the replies, the first few made sense, the last ones, errr :/

The reason I asked in the first place was due to the fact the cable I got with the system is 5m long, and 5mm thick, so thought I could get somesort of loss, as there wouldn`t be much shielding.

So with the info I`ve got, I `m better off going for co-ax :)

Shame I have no Richer near me, but that`s the reason I only want to spend £20ish, I`ve seen 2 leads, Sterling gold £13 (keene electronics) or "Home Cinema" brand for £12 both have the same details, But HC wins on price.

Went in one Audio-TV brand name shop (you know the sort, they only sell 2 brands of system) they showed me one lead 1m for £30!!!

So thanks to everybody for the info.

co-ax or optical ?

ok, I`ve now got DVD & a JBL system, that comes with a "cheap" co-ax lead, so want to get a better one.

So really which is best, optical or co-ax? in no more them 5 words :p

I`m tending towards co-ax, as both PS2 and SKY+ use optical so don`t really want to put my DVD trough a signal router. (for some reason, my Sony SKY has an optical point, but not active!)

Also which should I go for, 1.5m needed, £20ish to spend

Thanks in advance for your info

RE: Dolby digital surrond sound bargain at Currys.

Went to my local Dixons in Blackburn today, and there price is now £159.97p.

What a strange branch they are, Saturday £199.99p NO price match, then today a price drop, but still £10 more then Currys, and by the looks of it, more then other Dixons (atmans` £149?)

I`d like to know how can staff "reserve" stock for there selves? last time i looked, dixons-currys-pcworld don`t run a x-mas club, what do they do, put £10 down today, and pay the rest off at £20 a week?

They can only "hold" stock for 24 hours, so if you went in today, go back tomorrow, and ask for the system, the reserve sticker should have a date on it, ask them to put one on for you, so if the other person dosn`t collect by the time they shut, your next in line!!

RE: Dolby digital surrond sound bargain at Currys.

After reading this last night, i phoned round my local Currys (10min b4 closeing), and found 1 in Preston :)

just bought it, and it`s GREAT! easy to set up, and great sound.

But don`t bother asking Dixons to price match, they wont!! my neighbour called them and there it`s £200 when told i bought it for £150ish, he was told "no we wont match that" so much for there "we wont be beaten on price"

So if you can find one, buy it, this time last year it was £550!

Lord of the Flies cut??

Just seen that "Lord of the Flies" is out soon on R1, but why is it shorter then the UK video version? (90min USA - 95min UK) after useing the "runtime variations" shouldn`t the UK vid be 86min, so where are the other 9min?

Also UK is 15 USA is R

Is this the bigest film cut going??
