It`s not the best TV in the world (far from it) but PQ-wise it`s okay for the price we paid; the main problem I have is the horrid overscan the TV has. I wish I was joking but there must be upto 40% being taken off on the left side because it`s cutting off a lot of information, especially during credits. There`s also about 20% being taken off the top and bottom, I`ve seen plenty of situations where people`s heads have been cut off when they`re clearly there on the PC or my older TV.

I`m not zoomed in or anything, before anyone says it, it`s just ghastly. I`ve searched around but can`t find any way of getting a service menu or anything. If there isn`t I`m going to chuck the TV out of the window and say it was stolen...

Alba 114 - RCE supported?

I bought the Alba 114 a while back knowing it played VCDs, MP3s and was mult-regional out of the box. It`s a fine machine and the fact it uses PAL 60 for the NTSC > PAL conversion means the NTSC DVDs I have play wonderfully. The problem is that a few DVDs I want to purchase are RCE encoded and I know many multi-regional DVD players have problems playing them (that`s what RCE was created for anyway). Does the Abla 114 suffer problems? I know plenty of people here own the ALBA 114 so surely someone would know the answer.

The only uncut releases of Ichi at the moment are the Japanese DVD without English subs and a bootleg which uses the subs from the HK DVD which means all the parts that were cut out of the HK version aren`t subtitled. I can`t wait for the Dutch DVD...

I just went and had a look and the same thing happened to me too. Funnily enough all the titles it added were the new Shaw Brothers releases... Anyway, more than likely it`s due to the fact they`re upgrading the site. Try it again in a few days and hopefully it`ll be fine then.

If you search around you`ll find that a lot of people have experienced problems towards the end of the movie. It seems to be a manufacturing problem on certain DVD`s although it doesn`t seem to affect everyone. Just try the DVD on a different player or two and if it does the same thing then get it exchanged for a different copy.

Which would be the better version to get? The Tartan R0 or the Universe R3? My VCD is half dead now and I want to upgrade to a better picture. Basically which has the better features, picture and sound. I`ve heard a lot of people moan about the transfer, subtitles and sound on the R0 version but the R3 version is only letterboxed. Any comments would be nice...

Ah yes... Of course we all know that the GameCube (with the now GC only Resident Evil games and remakes) will be all cute and cuddly. Not to mention the fact it has some of the best games lined up for it which blow away anything the X-Box and PS2 have to offer. Also let us not forget the claims of how the PS2 was so powerful, yet the final specs where about 30% less than announced and that all the game companies can`t do s*** with it thanks to the less than stellar hardware. Quite frankly the X-Box and GC will prove how much the PS2 is nothing more than the Dreamcast with less on board memory and crapper games. Oh, and 4 games or so isn`t anything to be proud of. Devil May Cry isn`t the greatest game ever created, GTA3 is good but nowhere great as everyone mentions. The only good game is Silent Hill 2, and maybe the upcoming Suikoden 3.

Yes, Sony fanboys you enjoy yourselves. When all of us have our new X-Boxes and GC`s and you`re stuck waiting for the PS3 which supposedly is already on the way we`ll be the ones enjoying it.

Well I know that the R3 subtitles are the best and most exact subititles out there, the R1 and R2 subs were more Westernised. I don`t know if the Aussie (R4) version uses the R3 subtitles or uses its own translation. I think the latter is more likely, very likely indeed.

NOES boxset problems...

This question must have been answered already but I can`t find any information on it at all (I`ve searched the site just in case). It seems at certain points in all the films (well, the majority at least, I haven`t checked them all) it jumps back to the menu. I have a Dansai 852 and I`m wondering if it`s a player problem as I`ve heard of the Wharfdale having a problem with the boxset too.

All 20 of my orders through Play (inlcuding 2 out of stock orders) were sent 48 hours after the order. Not exactly the 24 hour they claim but still bloody good.

Well I don`t seem to have a confirmation email... I emailed them but no reply yet and I don`t want to phone Canda for sure.

Is it me being dumb or is there something wrong with DVDImport`s ordering system? I had 4 DVD`s in the cart and I went to checkout, chose my shipping, entered my details and confirmed. Then it took me to the shipping screen which led to the details screen which led to the details screen with the items still in my cart... Is it me or am I going round in circles? I didn`t want to order again so I checked my account and saw no orders placed, no sign of anything.

So after deciding to try again I went through the same process, with the same ending. Still nothing... If anyone knows if I`m being an idiot and now have 2 (maybe 3) of the same order then I`d like to know before I try again.

They must just not like you... I`ve ordered plenty from Play and I`ve never had a problem, I`m perfectly happy with them.

I ordered Army of Darkness Bootleg Edition, Toxic Avenger and Class of Nuke`em High last Monday and I got them last Friday. That`s pretty good when compared against my orders from Amazon.com.

Well I`ve swapped my disc and it still has the same problem, I`m going to have to say it`s a problem with the machine. I`m going to test it on a friends player later on so I`ll guess I`ll know for sure then.

One question (again) and I know it shouldn`t go here but it`s the most active topic and it does concern the Dansai:

Is anyone having problems with Anchor Bay`s "The Evil Dead - Full Uncut Edition"? It keeps messing up on the Anchor Bay logo and on the scene selection menus. It keeps rolling and "smudging" the picture leaving a real mess.

If anyone knows if it`s the player or the disc itself then I`d be grateful to know.

By using the hack will it be able to play RCE protected films or not? Hope this doesn`t sound dumb or anything but I`m not really 100% sure about RCE discs.

Terror Firmer (Uncut - R0) has to be the greatest DVD ever... It`s not only the best film ever made (really) but it has some of the best extras ever including a very good 90+ "Making Of...", 3 commentary tracks and audition tryouts being just the tip of the iceberg.

Oh and it isn`t Pan & Scan, all Troma films are filmed in 4:3. Make sure you get the 2 disc box set because that`s the one I`m talking about. The other is only 1 disc and is the cut (R) version.

Question...

Now this question must have been asked before but I can`t seem to find any information on it (plus I haven`t really looked hard enough...) but is Army of Darkness ever going to get a Region 2 release?

I am wanting to get the R1 "Bootleg Edition" but until I see a proper remote hack for the Dansai DVD852 (I know of the partially working one and I have no desire to install a chip) I`m going to stick with R2 releases which AOD hasn`t been released on yet.
