RE: Subwoofer hum

Cheers Kevin

I`ve tried different leads and different lengths and the hum is the same. It hums as soon as the power is turned on, even when the line input is disconnected. I have also tried isolating the power lead away from any possible source but without any effect.

RE: Subwoofer hum

Anybody else - dont mean to hijack the thread but I have the same problem. Pioneer W-S80 active sub that hums quite loudly whn switched on - just set the system up on saturday after much excited unwrapping but the hum is really putting me off. I have tried different leads but without any success.

Have tried all the settings on the amp before realising I get the same effect when its switched off as well. If anyone has any ideas I`d also be most grateful.

RE: Any suggestions on

Sorry just to expand a bit - its listed as the Pioneer Superslim package.
As far as I can remember the player and amp are approx 13cm together when stacked. Would say its equally as stylish as the Sony.

RE: Any suggestions on

Hi

If you can stretch your budget slightly to £600 than I would consider checking this site:

www.homecinemaheaven.com

In AV/Systems they are offering the following:
Pioneer 444K player (multiregion)
Pioneer SVX-C300 receiver
Pioneer S-V50 speaker package

at £599.99. All the benefits of seperates in a package designed to go together. If you look at all the reviews then the I would say the Pioneer rated equally as good as the Toshiba.

Even better - just spotted this. If you register with www.thedvdforums.com then in the bargain forum under Upgrade Heaven thread (Upgrade Heaven and homecinemaheaven are the same place) then you can get the above for £580 as a member. Would recommend them as a place to go as the service I have just received from them is excellent.

Just being buying new toys myself and was seriously considering the Pioneer gear.

RE: Marantz 4100 OSE

Cheers Fergus

Now just got to wait for the postie - looking forward to getting some new toys and the amp has every input I need plus a few.

Thanks for the quick response. As I say, my existing player has performed really good for the price but time to step up a grade. Just have to watch all my films again, taking advantange of the sound this time.

RE: Marantz 4100 OSE

Cheers very much Fergus

At the moment I have an old Encore 450 (bought as part of the DVD/Dreamcast bundle)from Game last year. the player is actually very good (good picture on the whole - bit flimsy build wise) and have been looking at upgrading. I believe HIFI Choice only gave the Marantz 2/5 for performance.

I`ve been looking at it as we`ve just moved into a new house and rather than have the TV/Video/DVD setup as well as HiFi setup I thought I`d get a decent DVD that plays CDs well to cut down on the space taken by another cabinet. I`ve not been able to find an local dealers that stock the Marantz (just placed an order for it now -along with the SR5200 A/V reveiver) I`m into the films - the girlfriends into the music - so it seemed like a nice compromise. I know its got the best buy award in What HiFi but I didn`t know if that was based on its music capabilty. Got a bit worried thinking about the visual side of things. My other choice was going to be the Pioneer 545.

Any other info would be more than helpful.

Thanks

Marantz 4100 OSE

Hi

Keep reading about how this is an excellent player for music but can anyone let me know - What is the picture like? Seriously considering buying one but cannot find any reviews. What HiFi give it a best buy award but there is no site review. HiFi choice give it a bit of a slating...seems to be no consistency.

Anyone......anyone??

Cheers - Much appreciated...

RE: Which AV amp

Hi Bryn

i have been having the same dilemma myself and posted her about it a couple of pages ago. I was looking at the Pioneer 545, the VSX-C300S amp and the V-S50K speaker pack from Pioneer. I have just got a copy of What Hi-Fi sound and vision and there is a letter there asking the same thing about the amp but I cant find any reviews myself but they might be reviewing it shortly

I think I`ve changed my mind though on the player and the amp and am now going for the Marantz SR4200 or SR5200 and the 4100 OSE player.

The SR4200 gets a cracking review in What Hifi and gets Best Buy award. Definitely worth looking at and can be found here:
www.homecinemaheaven.com for £279.99

But back to pioneer.....
I have a similar sized room and was looking at the pioneer S-V50K speakers as they are fairly discrete.

You can buy the av package of pioneer amp and speakers from the above site for £449.99 leaving you a bit out of your budget. Listed in AV packages as Pioneer superslim. Justin who runs the place is a regular on
www.thedvdforums.com and like westy or clayts he is also great at helping and responding to queries. (sorry westy and clayts - not meaning to step on your toes) If you check their bargain forum it also also special deals for forum members.

If you decide to go seperately you could also try www.avland.co.uk as they also have some good prices.

RE: Opinions please

I was going for the silver along with the VSX-C300S not the C300K. Wanted the 545 for the sound quality over the 444 and the extra scart for RGB throughput.. also seems odd that although the receiver looks to be made to compliment both the 444 and the 545 it does not have a co-ax audio input although both players have co-ax audio output Still can`t find any reviews on this receiver anywhere though.

Haven`t quite decided but again, if anyone has one or has any info on the C300 then it would be much appreciated. Going to scour the shops to see if any of the audio outlets has a set up.

May splash out a bit more and go for the Marantz SR4200 receiver and the 3100OSE player instead but liked the look of the pioneer.

RE: Opinions please

Cheers Guys

Wanted the 545 rather than the 444 for the extra scart (RGB throughput for digibox) and the VSX300 cos it makes the total height of both DVd and AMP approx 30cms. Girlfriend does not want huge audio set up sat around, and I thought the whole set up looks really good. Room is only 13 x 15 feet after all. looks like i`ll have to get a copy of what hi-fi (unless anyones got a link) spent most of saturday going through mags in newsagents but couldn`t find a great deal of info -

Anyone else??????

Opinions please

Hi

I am looking at buying the following:
Pioneer 545S
Pioneer VSX-C300S Av receiver
Pioneer S-V50K Speaker package

I have been able to find reviews on the DV444 player and I know it gets top billing at home entertainments latest issues but would like to know if anyone has any idea of the differences between that and the 545 performance wise.

Also if anyone has any of the other components could you please let me know what you think. I know I could buy more powerful etc but looked at this package as its very discrete compared to some. Or if anyone knows of any links to sites that may offer reviews I would be most grateful.

Cheers
