RE: GOODMANS 3000 HELP

I had the same problem with my Goodmans 3500.

I`ts not the hack, but the type of CD you`re using ( some makes are ok - but I haven`t got a list) . Some CDRs are fine some not, so far all CDRW I`ve tried are ok.

I`ve found that loading a CDR ( VCD or Audio or MP3), then turning the player off and back on does the trick.

Let me know how you get on

RE: Sony or Sharp Mini Disc portable...which is best?

I got a Sony MZ-R55, portable recorder.

Also a Hoontech soundcard with Optical out.

Being recording from MP3 for about 2 years now, no problems.

Quality is brill, I`d like a bit more battery life

I`ve used in for about 2 years, using a cassette adapter as well so I can use in the car.

If it goes `pop` I`d buy another ( or equivalent) from Sony straight the way.

Which is the best? Does it matter?

RE: Goodmans 3500 problem ??

The hack is on this site, in the popular players but here goes:

Open CD tray
On remote press 9817 ( opens the menu for region & macrovision).
Use enter key to change to region 9
Use down arrow to move to macrovison selection, again change to off with enter

Press return.

This only needs doing the once.

You may find that R1 discs only play in black & white, if so then your telly can`t cope with NSTC, in which case going into the normal setup option ( check manual )and change output from auto to PAL ( you will probably need to do this if copying to VCR).

RE: Goodmans 3500 problem ??

This may have already been answered.But...

I had the same problem, you will find that your Goodmans will play VCD quite happily if you burn them onto CDRW , not CDR.

I got given a copy of Monsters Inc on CDR - no joy, I then copied it on to re-writeable - bingo - works fine.

I think the same thing goes with MP3 files

Audio CD`s burnt onto CDR are ok

RE: GOODMANS DVD3000

I had a quick search on google, the following link should do the trick
http://www.regionfreedvd.net/player/goodmans.html

Also found on this web site

Let the forum know if it works

Best wishes

RE: FOUND!!! HACK FOR GOODMANS DVD3500PK

I`ve not noticed any problems with it getting hot - there again I`ve not really had cause to check, as to the lock up - it may be down to thumbprints or small scratches on the disc, there is a lot of error detection/correction that goes on when reading CD/DVD. I suggest cleaning the disc/ drawer with a photographic brush/blower or a lens cleaning tissue, this might be the cause. Is it only locking up on certain discs? Is it R1 only?

Jeff

RE: FOUND!!! HACK FOR GOODMANS DVD3500PK

Mark, keep the setting on region 9 ( ie multiregion), if the dvd-vcr-telly ( I assume you`ve only got the one scart socket on the telly)doesn`t work or is in black & white then setup the output of the dvd to PAL rather than AUTO when watching R1 ( in the normal setup menu). If you were to record in NTSC and your telly doesn`t accept it, then the R1 recording will display in black & white also
If I am correct in assuming the telly only having 1 scart socket then you may need to buy an adaptor, that will allow a 2 to 1 connection, if this is the case buy one that is switched ( about a fiver from www.beyondhifi.com ).You might notice a slightly inferior picture watching a R1 disc, with the DVD set to PAL, but if as you say the telly is a cheapy you`ll probably not notice. I would be surprised if your telly doesn`t accept NTSC signals, most sold within the last few years will accept both NTSC & PAL

RE: OOOOPS!!!

Matt,

Don`t worry about the typo, your help is most appreciated by me & others in this Forum.

here`s one for you though

When recording an R2 disc ( Hannibal) I don`t get the full soundtrack, only the backing music on The Green Mile I get all.

Confusing?

RE: FOUND!!! HACK FOR GOODMANS DVD3500PK

Hi,

You must be typing the wrong code in.

Open drawer
type 9817
press enter to cycle through the regions ( 9 for multi), press return to set

you can also disable macrovision here.

I have just proved it ok on mine,
ps lostboy made a typo earlier in this thread, the code is 9817 not 9187

RE: FOUND!!! HACK FOR GOODMANS DVD3500PK

I couldn`t play MP3 until I burnt a CD ( and closed the session) with no directory structure, i.e just put all the songs in the root.

I used Nero for burning the CD, and burnt to a cheapo 80 min CDR.

It does show up the quality of the left & right channel speakers though, I replaced mine with my standard hi-fi speakers- much better sound.

RE: FOUND!!! HACK FOR GOODMANS DVD3500PK

Matt,

Thought so, thanks for looking around.

I think my VCR can do NTSC, I can`t find the manual at the moment.

Best Wishes

RE: FOUND!!! HACK FOR GOODMANS DVD3500PK

Matt,

I`ve done that already, still can`t tape in colour from R1 discs.

I think it`s down to my VCR and not the DVD player though.

It`s not a problem, but it would be nice to do a copy now & again for my kids (if you can call a 21 year old a kid! )

I must say this is the first forum I`ve been in that`s being productive, just shows what can be done when folk work together.

RE: GOODMANS DVD3500PK - WE CAN DO IT!!!

Once the hack is set - that`s it!

Don`t know about VCDs , don`t even know what they are really, but MP3 plays fine on CDR & CDR/W ok, if that`s any use

Jeff

RE: FOUND!!! HACK FOR GOODMANS DVD3500PK

No problem with B & W for me on R1 discs, my telly auto-detects NSTC fine and plays R1 discs in colour ok

Maybe your telly is not set quite right, or you`ve got a duff Scart lead?

Know anthing about recording from R1 discs?, I assume i`ve got to get a NTSC video, mines only recording in B & W

RE: GOODMANS DVD3500PK - WE CAN DO IT!!!

Brilliant!

Also gives the option to turn Macrovision off.

Just tested on Pearl Harbour, I didn`t even have to set to PAL, my telly obviously also accepts NTSC.

Just found out from my neighbour that 9817 is a fairly common code.

RE: GOODMANS DVD3500PK - WE CAN DO IT!!!

I think the hack starts with the drawer open.

The Grundig 620HT is an extremely similar model

DVD3500PK is only sold by Comet, makes me think that the player is made by a third company, probably Korean, I`m going to open mine up to see if I can find who.
- OK i`ve done that, no obvious manufacturer, but none of the boards are labelled Goodmans, further evidence that another party is involved.

I think the hack is going to be the same as another machine,

Jeff

RE: Goodmans DVD3500PK - Hack required

I suspect that the hardware is manufactured by a Korean company, and branded as Goodmans, or the Grundig 620 and possibly others.

I`m still looking, I am certain there is a hack, it`s just finding it.

RE: Goodmans 3500

It`s not a bad piece of kit, but it is budget. Sound quality ok, picture quality excellent. So far nobody has found a multiregion hack, so that might sway you. Note that SCART lead is not supplied, and you will have to replace some of the crappy speaker cabling provided with some decent stuff, I`ve replaced the front & centre channel speakers & cabling with more upmarket kit.

Surround/Front /Centre speakers are 8 W
Subwoofer is 15 W

I would think these are peak figures and not RMS

Plenty enough oomph for the average sized sitting room.

It plays audio CDs & mp3 CDs pretty well out of the front speakers & subwoofer, a good reason to connect decent left/right speakers.

I`ve replaced my NAD amp and audio CD player with it, quite happy with the results, but it`s no match for an expensive set up.

Definitely a good buy, if only I could find the multiregion hack.

Goodmans DVD3500PK - Hack required

I`ve noticed that if you open the drawer you can start input a pin code from the remote, the code appears to be 4 digits, maybe this is the way forward. Anybody else found it yet?

addition

when i say 4 digits, I mean to say that the on entry of the 4th digit the screen goes back to normal.

I haven`t got any region 1 discs yet, has anybody tried opening the drawer, putting a region 1 disc in, trying some of the common codes ( ie 0123, 167 etc) and pressing play - this might be the way forward, but I`m not going to buy R1 discs until it`s proved.

Regards

Canky
