LG RH7500 DVD /HDD recorder - first time user!

Hi,

I`ve just installed an LG RH7500 DVD/HDD recorder and am very pleased with the results - the multi-region hack took a number of attempts but eventually the "Successful" message came on screen. However a couple of questions that I hope some of you may know the answers to!

1) I`m using one SCART conection from a Grundig Skydigibox into the LG and then on to my JVC AV-32WR2EK TV (AV1 socket). I also take a second SCART cable from the digibox into the second SCART socket on the TV (AV2). When I view through the DVD recorder, the image appears fuzzy compared to the very crisp (and brighter) image seen when viewing the direct connection (AV2). In addition when viewing via the DVD recorder there is a very slight delay incurred in the programme so I hear an echo if I stand between this TV and the TV in our kitchen -this inbuilt delay doesn`t occur if we were watching the direct AV2 programme. Are these two things (fuzziness and echo) normal when watching via the DVD recorder??

2) Is there a code I can use with the LG`s remote to operate the JVC TV?? The manual only mentions Zenith, Samsung, Sony and Hitachi.

3) In the arrangement mentioned above, we have to set the DVD recorder to AV2 to get input from the digibox, I`m using AV3 to connect to a VCR and will used AV4 to connect my video camera - so can someone explain to me (in clearer language than the manual) when, why and how you`d use AV1?? Page 17 of the manual talks about the AV1 decoder and says this is normally set to OFF. I don`t understand what it is doing if this is set to ON (as described in the manual). When if ever should this be set to ON?

Look forward to hearing from you more technically minded users!

Cyber Home AD-M512 - multiregion out of box or not?

I`ve been looking at some of the threads re Cyber Home 512 and am still confused as to whether this device has multiregion capability out of the box or not?

I note that Richer Sounds are selling the 512 for £149.95 but offer a "multiregion" version for £159.95. Are they simply making a "hack" and charging £10 for something that the purchaser could do for nothing?

Does it depend upon the firmware version or does the 212 hack (press 7, press 6 press SEL enter 13....) work on the 512 irrespective of the firmware.

If you are the proud owner of a 512 is it a good buy?

Cheers

RE: SCAN SC-2000 A users view wanted!

I`d like to thank everyone who has responded so quickly to my plea for an honest opinion. I can`t believe that in the space of a day I`ve already had 12 replies (albeit some from the same respondees). Just shows the consumer potential of the internet - I just hope the manufacturers take due note.

I must say I beginning to be put off the SCAN and I think a valid point was made by the guy who suggested the sheer number of users taking an "interest" in the device is probably indicative of the number of problems they are having. This point had already ocurred to me as I hadn`t come across such an "active" or "vocal" (no disrespect) group for any other DVD player. And yes there`s both good and bad points in that.

I might ask SCAN to let me have one on trial but I doubt I`ll get anywhere, so, and I`m almost loathe to ask, what other budget machines are being recommended, Yelo, Encore, Wharfedale, Samsung? - given my parameters of multiregion, two SCARTS preferably (or is there really a better way of connecting to the TV?) and CD-R/RW capability!

Cheers

SCAN SC-2000 A users view wanted!

I`m seriously considering purchasing a SCAN SC2000 as I want a multiregion device, with CD-R/CD-RW capability and two SCART sockets. The SCAN fits the bill. The DVD Reviewer review was glowing but a recent review in DVD Buyer quotes "a dismal budget box afflicted with terrible pictures" and scored it only 5/10.

I`d really like to hear from anyone who has the SCAN DVD to learn firsthand whether they`ve been pleased with their purchase. I`d be using a Kenwood FRFV7030D receiver and a JVC AV-32WR2EK TV.

Look forward to hearing from anyone out there with a good or bad opinion.

Thanks

Martin

Hacks and comments on the new JVC XV-523

Has anyone experience of this new JVC DVD? I`m considering buying one plus a JVC AV-Rec to add to my JVC widescreen TV and VCR.
Does it have multiregional capabilities, can it be remote hacked like other JVC DVDs.

Many thanks

Martin
