RE: Two Towers at DVDSoon

Wouldn`t touch DVDSoon with a barge pole after the farce I`ve just had.

Ordered a DVD from them over 2 months ago and still haven`t received it. After initialy raising a query after 1 month I received a reply saying they were looking into it. (Order Pending).

2nd Month past and I emailed again, this time I was told that the reason my order was delayed was that I`d ordered the french version (v.f) of the film and if I wanted the english version they could dispatch within 48hrs.

I may have ordered the (v.f) version but this relates to the cover only. (Some Canadian laws introduced last year). The DVD discription did say it had an English Soundtrack so I didn`t give a fig what language was on the cover.

Interestingly, they debited by credit card on the day of ordering and since then price of the DVD has risen by $1 (were they hoping I`d cancel?)

My last instruction to them was to send whichever version they could dispatch quickest aslong as it had an english soundtrack as stated on the original web details.

They replied saying that an English version was now being sent but in future they wouldn`t allow me to change an order type.

Yes - Like I`ll be taking my custom back there anytime SOON?

ps. Order still pending but should be sent within 48hrs. Maybe!!!

Check out the article on http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=6777

Depends on what your PC needs are on how much of a bargin it is.

RE: FREE DVD ONLY £1.50 P&P NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD

Remember that this is the original 1968 Black and White movie.

I bought it thinking it was going to be one of the 80`s Zombie type movies and was a little disappointed. But at £1.50 Ican`t complain.

RE: Monsters Inc - £13!!!!

Are you purchasing in US or Canadian dollars.

It`s cheaper to buy in Canadian

RE: WISH YOU`D SPENT MORE MONEY ON A BETTER MACHINE?

I got a Schneider 855 which cost £99 which does all what I wanted it to - Watch multi region DVD`s. I didn`t have a DVD player before so the quality I`m watching is way beyond what my VHS Video produced.

With the money saved, I can build up a DVD collection and when I eventualy upgrade my TV to widescreen, hifi system to DTS then the DVD player may get upgraded. But by then new standards would probably be out and we start the catch up process all over again.

It`d be nice - but money priorities lie elsewhere. ;)

RE: Persistance leads to success --but at what price? (sic)

Is it realy worth it?
If your going to spend half an hour arguing the toss plus various phone calls and car journys isn`t your time worth more than the few quid you`ve saved?

Schneider 855 problem on SVCD`s and Eeeerr! DVD backups ;)

I have a Schneider 855 which I`ve been more than happy with but I`m starting to loose faith in the baby.
A m8 gave me a `backup` of Ali-G on DVDR which is almost unwatchable - breaks up, badly out of sync. (Yes.. Buy the original I hear you say).
My point is that if I take this same DVDR and place in my parents Dansai 855 DVD player, it`s perfect.
I`ve also created an SVCD of a music video the kid loves and this also jumps and breaks up on my Schneider. But on the Dansai, again, it`s perfect.
I have backups of all the latest stuff doing the rounds on SVCD and these play perfect. (confused?).
I`m guessing that the Schneider is very fussy about the SVCD and DVDR standard whereas the Dansai just plays without problems.
Anyone else noticed this problem.
ps. I have updated the firmware.
pps. Is it natural that an 11 month old son should be so fasinated with Kylie`s - Can`t get you out of my head` video. Duno where he gets if from ;)

RE: Dansai S-VCD Problem?

I have played SVCD`s on the Dansia and used fast-forwards with no problems, but I didn`t encode those files.

I`ll try one tonight using an SVCD that I did using DVD2SVCD (12 hrs to rip -OUCH!)

I don`t think Nero is all that good when it comes to encoding. Its suppose to a bit crude and basic.

RE: Received Kodak DX3700 yesterday.

Mebz,

Well done m8 - Can you please list exactly what you got for your cash? Does it come with the extra 32MB Memory and photo paper?.

RE: Schneider 855 Macrovision?

I think Mickey probably meant to say - The macrovision remote hack for the Schneider hasn`t been found yet. Si`s right, the Secret Menu 2 On/Off is in the ROM but how you acrivate it is still a secret.

You want to email Schneider UK technical support for advise as it sounds like you have a legit reason for switching this off. And when you have it - Share the info ;)

RE: Schneider DVD 855 upgrade

Can only surgest trying your DVD on someone elses DVD player and see if the lipsync problem is a faulty/dodgy DVD rather than your player.

RE: DANSAI 852

Go to www.tesco.co.uk and look in the store locator for branches in your area. You`ll need BT.com `s directry enqiries as the Store listings doesn`t give telephone numbers.
Then get dialing - There`s no easy way, Tesco`s don`t know each other stores stock and there is no central computer so I`m afraid a bit of detective work is needed.
I phoned 8+ stores in my area and found 1, 30 mins drive away.
You may be lucky that a store in your area has been posted on forum.

RE: Schneider DVD 855 upgrade

I managed to get the upgrade CD from the net - How did you get Schneider to send you one directly, did you request this it?

After you`ve installed the upgrade are you sure you selected `restore defaults`. I think this is needed to refresh / update bios.

I`ve done mine had noticed no lipsync probs on DVD`s - I have them on VCD`s but then this is probably down to the VCD`s than the player.

RE: dansai flicker problem

How did you sort it - Bet the player was set to PAL as default and you`ve changed it to AUTO?

RE: Existing On Digital / ITV Digital subscribers - offer - sort of...

I tried doing this with $ky a few years ago after hearing everyone else was being offered reduced subs or free channels. To my dissapointment the Sky salesperson didn`t give a monkeys. She just replied `Yes fine you final payment will be on xx.xx.xx` - Just my luck eh?

RE: Dansai 852 - availability

I spent a good hour phoning around Yorkshire this morning - Tesco`s Store Locator is a bit of a pain, it gives you the store addresses but not the telephone number. You have to us Bt.com`s directory enquires to find that out.
Managed to locate final one at Huddersfield (Viaduct St) and reserved before I picked up.
Cracking machine - well worth the hastle of finding.
I`ve been told from folk on another forum that Scunthorpe Tescos had 5 and Yoevill had 40 in stock (Yesterday - Sat 12/1/02)
Spoke to guy at Halifax (Kings Cross) and he was confident some more were coming in stock during the week - (I bet they`ll be LG`s)

ps. Tesco`s don`t have a central location to check stock in other stores - DVD`s are allocated to stores not requested by stores so even they don`t know what they`re gettin until they arrive.

RE: HELP FOR SCHNEIDER DVD 855

I`ve up`d the upgrade image to here if this is any help:

http://www.geocities.com/dskirrow/dvd855.zip

RE: cheapest dvd`s on the net...

I`ve ordered most of my DVD`s from here also. There`s an option to view prices in UK £`s and that`s all you pay. No hidden taxes, exchange commision, delevery etc.. The price is shows is the price that comes of your credit card. One tip I got was to pay in canadian dollars rather than US ones. Better exchange rate.
All of my ordered DVD`s have arrived within 4-8 days. They also don`t charge your credit card until it`s been shipped, so if you pre-order a Feb 1 2002 release, your card won`t get hit till then.

RE: Schneider DVD 855 - I got the upgrade CD it works!!!!! :D

You could try http://www.schneider-ag.de/ and click the Laser Technologies logo.
There is an option for English but this area doesn`t seem to be as upto date as the german version.
Then again, theres nothing of interest on either area regarding firmware updates or hack info.

RE: Schneider DVD 855 - I got the upgrade CD it works!!!!! :D

If you do a search on forums you`ll come up with the original link/post. As for the Secret menu 2, still no joy. I`ve emailed Schneider a couple of times but haven`t had a reply (To be expected realy, but worth a try).

Heres lightfast`s original post:

www.lightfast.f2s.com/dvd855 upgrade.ace

thats the clonecd image, dont have nero installed at the minute so cant make that image, tell us if you want any other image i will try and make one...

the name of the cd should be called UPDATE and should have only one file in it called BANK30.ROM

cant try it cause my dvds uptodate but should be fine

RE: Schneider DVD 855 - I got the upgrade CD it works!!!!! :D

Lawrence, I was hoping that the Schneider would do MP3`s in folders rather than do a scan and sort. It`s a real pain cos it means having to rename my MP3 collection and re-burn them.

There is a DVD player from Makro @ £85 exc VAT called Naiko. Think the model is a 5201, can`t be sure. But its in stock now. I know a few folk who`ve bought them and are very please with them.

This sorts MP3`s in folders and also has the usual remote hacks for Region change and even Macrovision On/Off.

If anyone from Schneider is reading this, how about altering the MP3 listings for next firmware update ;)
