RE: Calling all Alba 113 Owners

I just burnt them all stragght on the disc alone using nero. I haven`t tried using different directories or anything.

No special settings are needed although i would try and keep it all standard.

RE: Are CD backups legal?

Spot on. Some people may have been getting confused with america where they have `fair use` rights (ie a copy of a CD in a car etc).

The cactus thing could be circumvented by playing on a normal CD player then recording through the sound card and then burning to a CD. True?

RE: DVD region X software for playstation 2 -Does it cause problems?

As far as i know that hack only works on early jap models.

RE: Legitimate question on DVD backup`s

VCD quality can be quite good. I recently did a test backing up a DVD of mine. I would recommend TMPG Encoder to encode VCD`s as it is free, d/l here:

http://www.tmpgenc.com/e_main.html

Its quite straight forward as the download includes a settings file for VCD or SuperVCD (I think SVCD is MPEG 2 - Same as DVD - although this will not let you store as much on a CD as with VCD).

If you want to back up your DVD`s to play on your PC you can get DVD quality (almost) on a CD by using DivX as stated above. This is MPEG 4.

I don`t know how in depth you looked but this website has good guides:

Edit:
or this one http://nickyguides.digital-digest.com

One point to note though it took over 4hrs to encode a (albeit long) DVD to DivX on a 1600+ Athlon XP. Hope that helped, good luck with it.

RE: Calling all Alba 113 Owners

Can anyone confirm whether the DVD113 locks to a region eventually?
Does this do anything to help:

Power on your player
Press Open/Close
Press Zoom
Press a/b
Press Up Left Dowm Right
The DVD player may show a Region free message

Also is there a definative guide to using Music/VCD CDR`s as I have trouble, other than white label CDR`s is there anything extra like settings for Nero?

RE: alba 113

Check this thread:

Edit:
In addition to that possible try `date safe` brand CDR`s with a white label, I tried a cheap CDR (`Vivastar` or something) with a white label it displayed all the tracks but wouldn`t play - Still closest i`ve got so far.

One For All - Controlling my DVD113

Does anybody know whether I can conrol my Alba DVD113 with a One For All 4 by sticking a code in the AUX key, i can`t find anything. Someone suggested using the VCR codes but no luck.

Can`t honestly be bothered searching all the way through. Ta

RE: Calling all Alba 113 Owners

My dad also got one for christmas, here is what i have learned from various posts:

MACROVISION FREE - No (However I managed to record a DVD with no problems - do some not contain the protection)? No hack yet.

REGION FREE - Yes, ish (Apparently will play region 1 out of the box however may lock to that region). No Hack yet.

FIRMWARE - If you have a red display call Alba 0208 7873111 for an update CD. If Green/White U R OK.

CDR/MP3 - No (However I think I saw somewhere that Discrite (white label) work, i presume this is a brand but have not tried, my CDR`s don`t work).

Also Argos were supplying the DVD104 as an alternative when no DVD113`s were available, this was truly Multiregion plus CDR and MP3 compatible.

Not entirely conclusive but might help somebody, now PLEASE find the hacks someone.

EDIT - If someone could confirm audio CDR`s working that would be fantastic.
