RE: microsoft error code 1006-4

Thank you Rob.
I had seen this but I did not think that it applied to me as this was for someone who experienced when trying to uninstall, but I was trying to install it.
But I took your advise & it worked.
MS would not divulge what 1006-4 was & were trying to extract £65 for their help!!
I am truly disappointed with MS with their so called "support".
It has now been installed thankfully with Rob's help.

microsoft error code 1006-4

Hi,
My netbooks hard drive had failed, so we replaced it & re-installed a fresh win 7 as I did not have a recovery disc , but have got the product key.
I then tried to install  office 2013 from an email link with the product key embedded, but after 8 %  error 1006-4 comes up.
Mircroft wants £65 to fix it. They won't tell me what me what error 1006-4 represents. They say it is out of warranty as  it is over 90 days from the very first time install.
Basically, after 90 days of first install, they want to extract more money from us instead of fixing the bugs etc.
I would appreciate for any tips on how to fix this problem as I am no good when it comes to computers.
thanks

RE: Amateur Spam

I had that on an email address which I use for  junk mail, so I blocked it.

RE: Samsung or Panasonic LED

Buying TV from JL gives you extra 4 yrs guarantee on top of the normal 1 yr warranty. (total 5 yrs warranty)

RE: Smart Parking Limited also trading as Town & City Parking- Parking Charge Notice

We having been getting regular "final offer" before court action for the parking from February, but we keep on ignoring it.

It is a free car park, so they have no grounds for "loss of parking fees" as far I understand.

RE: Smart Parking Limited also trading as Town & City Parking- Parking Charge Notice

Another letter from Zenith Collections offer of £80.00 instead of £120.00.

Amazed that this still going on & them not yet fed of chasing us since February.

Now waiting for the next letter.

RE: Smart Parking Limited also trading as Town & City Parking- Parking Charge Notice

Another letter received, this time it says that it is a debt recovery agent, but if I pay now it is £80 otherwise it will revert back to £120.

It must be costing them a fortune on postage!

Now waiting for the next scary letter!

RE: Smart Parking Limited also trading as Town & City Parking- Parking Charge Notice

Got another letter "Reduced payment offer to avoid court proceedings £96.00"
If you don`t pay the reduced amount before 28/6/2013:
This is our client`s final offer before they pass the case to their solicitor.
The amount will go back to £120.00
court fee £30
Solicitor`s costs £50
Interest of 8% p.a.
A court judgment against you could seriously affect your ability to obtain credit in the future.

Now waiting for the next letter.

RE: Smart Parking Limited also trading as Town & City Parking- Parking Charge Notice

Got another letter today, asking for £120 within 14 days or else they will recommend the landholder to commence county court proceedings.

They will seek to recover:

The principle sum shown above

Interest at the county court rate of 8% per annum
court costs, which may include::
£30 court fee to issue
£50 solicitor`s costs on claim
£22 solicitor`s costs on entry of judgement.

Request for Confidential Business Relationship

I know that this will come to you as a surprise since we don`t know each other before. For the purpose of introduction, I was the assistant to the Former CEO of British Petroleum (BP), in United Kingdom. After due deliberation , I decided to contact you for your assistance in standing as benefactor to the sum of S$75.5Million (Seventy Five Million, Five Hundred Thousand United States Dollars) equivalent because, I and two other colleagues are currently in need of a silent foreign partner whose identity we can use to transfer the said sum.

This fund accrued legitimately to us as commission from foreign contracts (Oil Spill in The Gulf Of Mexico) with British Petroleum during my time in active service through our private connections.

The fund is presently waiting to be remitted from London in The United Kingdom to any overseas beneficiary confirmed by me as associate/receiver. By virtue of my political position, I cannot acquire this money with my name. For this reason I took it upon myself to look for an overseas silent partner who could work with me to facilitate transfer of this fund for our mutual benefit, hence the reason for this message. What I am requesting from you is:

(1) To be my silent partner and receive the funds as the sole benefactor to the contract amount which I shall secure all legal documentation here in U.K to authenticate my claim on your behalf.

(2) Provide a private telephone number for easy communication under your control.

(3)Receive the funds as the beneficiary, Take out your commission after tax and keep the rest of the money until I arrive your country to meet with you after the transfer is completed.

My proposal is that after you receive the funds, it would be shared as follows: (1) 20% to you as commission for your co-operation and assistance in facilitating the transfer from The United Kingdom to any of your nominated account, while the remaining 80% belongs to me . You will be free to take out your commission immediately after the money hits your country. Since my objective is to invest the money in a foreign country, it would be appreciated if you could also help me with advice and direction on investing into profitable/lucrative ventures in your country for an additional 5%. However, this is optional, and if it is not convenient for you to further assist us with investing the money, we can end our cooperation after you make available to us our part of the money.

The transaction, although discrete, is legitimate and the money will be transferred successfully with all necessary back-up documents showing legitimate source/origin of fund. The transfer will be effected within a period not longer than two weeks as soon as we reach an agreement and you furnish me with a suitable response indicating your interest for processing the transfer to my private email: 990divadegroeg[at].moc.liamg

I plead with you on one issue, whether you are interested or not, kindly do not expose this information to anyone else. I confirm that the transaction is legitimate and without any risks either to us or yourself. Please, your immediate response will be highly appreciated whether you are interested or not.

Yours Truly,

George David.

RE: Smart Parking Limited also trading as Town & City Parking- Parking Charge Notice

Received a letter from Debt Recovery Plus ltd yesterday that we have 14 days to pay (£120.00) otherwise, this matter may be passed to the landholder`s solicitor to commence County Court proceedings.

What next !!!!!!

Also received my first ever email from a Nigerian scammer !!!!!!!

RE: Homeplug question..

BusyB06,
Thank you for the post, but I have returned them & got TP-Link 500, which has worked so far without any glitches.

RE: Fifty

Happy Birthday.
Welcome to Saga !!!!

RE: Ebay and Parcelforce 48 question

I picked the 2 packages from the sub post office - a 5m cat6 lead in each package from the same order ( suppose that they split the order so that the packages could go through the letter box as they did not require delivery signature).
I actually tried it if it went through the letter box & it actually did go through it.

The good news is that they did not charge me. If it was my request to be delivered at a sub post office, then they would have charged £1 per package.

The delivery man had (conveniently)forgotten to fill in the "time" box as I wanted to check what my son was doing at that time, he said that he did not hear the doorbell.

RE: Ebay and Parcelforce 48 question

I ordered some stuff from Amazon market place.  Today I got a card from parcelforce that as I was not home, they have left it a post office, which means that I have to pay £1 plus use my petrol to get there.
They are supposed to give the option of redeilvery or leaving at a post office( at a charge of £1.00)

Lazy parcel force staff. I am going to complain to Parcel force asking them from where did they get my approval to have it left at a post office at my expense!

RE: Homeplug question..

Cheers Ogster,
I will be sending them back & get a refund. Once they have refunded me, then I shall start looking again.

RE: Homeplug question..

I tried in the same room as the router & got around 17m using a netbook. So
I then tried to connect it to the desktop pc, but now it does not work at all.

I have the 2 outer leds lit up , but the middle led is NOT lit.
Can you pls check which LEDs are lit when working?
I still have not heard from the Ebayer.
Thank you.

RE: Homeplug question..

I have used them, but I only get about 17.8mb. I am on VM cable 30mb. The main pc connected via rj45 from the hub gives 30mb.
I have both units connected to the wall sockets without any spike suppressants etc.
I also sent a message to the seller yesterday that he has supplied me older model rather than the one advertised, but I have not had any reply.

RE: Homeplug question..

Hi Ogster,

I have tried to find out the difference between the 2, but I cannot find a site that shows the differences. I think that mine is the older model.

Thank you

RE: Homeplug question..

Hi Ogster,
I have received Belkin 2 x F5D4076 instead of 2 x F5D4078 .

Do you know which is better of the 2. Which ones did you get?

It is european market one with UK adapter supplied. I hope that the adapter does not drop the bandwith/range.
I have not yet tried them out.

Regards

RE: Homeplug question..

Ogster you are right that the Belkin ones are worth the extra £7 for the 1G ones. I have now cancelled the Amazon order & instead ordered the Belkin ones.
Thank you Ogster for your tip.

RE: Homeplug question..

I have just ordered these from Amazon - TP Link 500 twin pack for £33.57

http://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-Link-PA411KIT-AV500-Powerline-Adapter/dp/B0084Y9N3O/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1365283570&sr=8-1-fkmr0&keywords=tp+link+500+mpbs+homeplugs&tag=myrev09-21 as these have uk fittings, I did not want to use the euro ones with adaptors.

RE: Smart Parking Limited also trading as Town & City Parking- Parking Charge Notice

She got a letter from them, asking to pay £70.00. "Failure to pay within 14 days will result in an addtional fee of £10 and may result in civil recovery action being raised."

Now waiting for another bully letter after 14 days.

Will keep you posted.

RE: Virgin media broadband superhub VMDG480

I would love to hear the results after the pilot testing is completed. I hope that the wi-fi problem is sorted.

RE: Virgin media broadband superhub VMDG480

I have a Belkin router which has been brilliant apart when its knickers in a twist & requires reboot, it is at this stage that it is a pain as it does not reboot easily- the modem light will keep flashing, and I have to leave like this over night till it resets.

The VM tech support were very helpful, she remotely set the hub settings & she had also tried to set it as a modem only, but my router would not reset properly at this stage.

I think my only option is to have a new decent router or have an extender.

If I were to use an extender, would the bandwith drop or should I still expect 30M?

Which is the better of the 2 options   router or extender/repeater for range & bandwith?

Thank you guys again for your inputs.

RE: Virgin media broadband superhub VMDG480

Hi Ogster,

Have you made any changes to fix the problem, if so what are they?  Or is it still poor?

What is the better solution- connect separate router & use the hub as modem only  or add an extender to the hub?
Thank you

Virgin media broadband superhub VMDG480

Hi All,

We have been upgraded to 30M from 10M & therefore they have replaced our modem with the above, which is a combined  modem & wireless router.

But, the wireless range is poor. Nearer the hub, we get 30M & starts to fall, the further you go.

It is sited in the same place as was the previous wireless router, and we never had any problems with it. It was used with an older VM modem, which apparently is not compatible with 30M broadband.

I wonder if anyone here had similar uses. Would a wireless extender solve my problem?

Has anyone managed to get an extender from VM to solve this problem?

Thank you
