PS2 DVD picture problem

Does anyone have a solution to a problem I have with my PS2 and Region 1 DVD`s? I bought a Region X DVD disc to use on my PS2 so that I could not only watch Region 2 DVD`s but Region 1 as well. My set up is that I have a lead running from the cable top box into the video and then a SCART lead from the video into AV1 SCART socket on my television. I used the lead supplied with the PS2 and plugged this into the AV2 socket and when playing games or watching Region 2 DVD`s this is fine. When I try to watch Region 1 DVD`s the picture is in black and white. When I swapped the SCART lead from the PS2 to AV1 the picture is still in B&W. I bought the proper Sony lead with the SCART lead moulded on and I gat a B&W picture on AV2 but a perfect colour picture on AV1 but I have the hassle of having to swap leads over all the time. I tried a S-video cable = B&W picture. I bought a 4 into 1 Scart connector but when using the PS2 I get a wavey line across the screen which would suggest there`s still a signal from the video getting through. I then tried a 3 into 1 Scart lead with a push button on off switch for each SCART lead and although the tv is perfect I only get sound on the PS2 - this would suggest that not all the pins are wired up inside the block. So I am now out of suggestions and wonder if anyone can help me - PLEASE!!!!
