RE: Aldi.........Tevion wireless video/audio sender
I looked at the box for this Tevion unit at my local ALDI (empty box!) and it seems the receiver has RF modulator output. If so this is very good as my upstairs portable does not have SCART, so I would have a problem without RF output.
Can anyone confirm this, and that it works well?
Well a day later I can answer my own question - yes it does have RF modulator output on channel 48, but on the one I have the sound is very poor and hissy (tried 3 TVs). It seems to be only from the left channel - if I pull that one off on the transmitter it goes silent, pull off right - no change, and if I then put the right one into left (to prove it was good) I get sound again. The receiver does get both audio channels as evidenced by connecting the cinch type connectors to a suitable TV. So mine may be faulty.
Without RF, using Scarts it works quite well, but that RF feature was key to me. Oh, and BTW the manual forgets to mention each unit has a small on/off switch which does frustrate for a few minutes!

RE: Pacific 750 and 1000
Odd that the 750 shouts about mp3s on the box while the 1000 does not, but even in the 1000`s manual mp3 is mentioned.
The 1000 plays standard VCDs I made on my PC with Nero Burning ROM no problem. It also plays mp3s, and its black!
Its also supposed to play SuperVCDs but I haven`t tried that.
Pacific P-DVD 1000 Left & Right audio swapped!
Discovered to my amazement that the Pacific P-DVD 1000 player I have has the left & right audio on the scart switched!
Left is on right and right on left!
They are the right way on the phono sockets.
I checked it to the nth degree by using a video recorder, a satellite receiver, two different makes of scart leads and some cordless headphones. Its wired wrong!
Doesn`t seem right I have to make a dedicated Scart lead so its going back.
Anybody else had this?
RE: Pacific DVD-1000
It certainly does play mp3s
Listed as such in the manual - ISO 9660
But only displays 8 characters of file name (this is part of ISO)
Not sure of the bit rates in accepts yet - I just slipped in a Cd-r of mine, and it founds the mp3s amidst the rest
RE: pacific 1000 black + white region 1
OK, I now have tried "Star Trek Vol 40" (normal Region 1) and "The Patriot" (RCE Region 1).
Both play perfectly on my old Philips set in either PAL or PAL60 setting in the Asda Pacific P-DVD 1000 player. They`re a bit less jerky in the PAL60 setting, but in either setting they play in colour.
The odd thing is region 2 discs play well in the PAL60 setting too, which doesn`t seem right - in fact they look better - bit less contrasty.
So the problem must be in your TV, unless its a faulty player.
And I now have shown the player is happy with Region 1 and Region 1 RCE discs. - Plus I tried CD-RW - played a VCD I made on CD-RW, and it likes CD-R too.
All this plus VCD/SVCD & mp3 playing for 89 notes with a three year guarantee - yay!
Now we need to get Macrovision off!
RE: pacific 1000 black + white region 1
I`m using a pacific 1000 like you but with a 1989 Philips TV.
When I select PAL60 the picture briefly jumps, but comes back in colour no problem. My TV doesn`t handle NTSC in colour as some modern sets, but can take PAL60,which is also what VCRs with NTSC playback put out when playing an NTSC tape.
Maybe you have tried that on your TV sometime?
It doesn`t sound as if your TV can`t handle PAL60.
Older sets may have ths problem.
Can you play the Region 1 disc in the PAL setting OK?
Am nagging my workmate again to bring in the promised DVDs tomorrow to check if I have limitations like you.
Geoff
RE: pacific 1000 black + white region 1
I`ve just bought a Pacific 1000, and am intrigued by this.
A friend promises to bring me a Region 1 DVD and a Reg 1 RCE disk Monday, so I can`t wait now to see how it works.
My TV certainly doesn`t support NTSC - if I switch Video to NTSC it goes black & white.
Have you tried playing Vcds on these settings?
I have - my Vcds of Enterprise play in Colour on Pal & Pal60, but jerk a lot less on PAL60. They were recorded in the US as NTSC Vcds with 30 frames/sec interlaced - ie 60 Hz - hence PAL60.
If nobody else has an answer I hope to post one Monday evening.
RE: Pacific p-dvd 1000 from Asda - a Sampo clone?
Intersting both the Pacific 750 and the 1000 are said to have the same region hack as the Reoc A3.
Perhaps all are from Aki ?
But I notice the 750 looks a lot like the Reoc A5
Oh well, back to the drawing board,
Geoff
Pacific p-dvd 1000 from Asda - a Sampo clone?
Hi you gurus,
I was thinking of buying the Pacific DVD player from Asda at 89 pounds. I see the region hack (involving entering 8421 - elsewhere on this site) is identical to that for the Reoc A3 from Safeway at http://reoc.keyservice.co.uk/a3/regionfree
I`m sure I read the Reoc is a Sampo clone, or is it just the Reoc A5?
Does this mean the Pacific 1000 is a Sampo clone - of which model, and since the Pacific 750 has the same hack how is it related?
Any opinions on the Pacific 1000 - is it good for VCD, does it play CDR, and MP3? - the latter is a feature of the A3, but not mentioned on the Pacific 1000`s box.
