RE: Questions about the Scan SC-2500
Check before I hit send on that last post - must be on the supper high way - will give it a few more days.
Don`t worry asking, I`ll keep you informed if I don`t see it :-)

PS thanks for the prompt reply.
RE: Questions about the Scan SC-2500
I Think the appeal is the feature packed box is sooo cheap.
I sent mine back because of the remote and zoom problems but there is supposed to be a fix for all the problems (never got to find out the problem reported with MP3`s further down this board).
Only thing I would say is if you do find a fault with it don`t hold your breath for your money back!! I sent mine back on the 8th (20 days ago) and still no sign of a refund.
Can anyone comment on the fix - did it fix all the concerns mention on this board?
As I always say (to be fair and not one sided) the picture quality was very good.
Hope you enjoy your new 2500 - I`m guessing you will not need ot software upgrade it as it will be done before shipping now.

RE: WISH YOU`D SPENT MORE MONEY ON A BETTER MACHINE?
Well, I bought the Scan 2500. But with the few faults it had I sent it back and went for the tosh 210 multi region. No regrets about it - remote works great and so does the zoom function.
given the reviews I have read about the Tosh both before and since I bought it - not to mention the fact I like it myself - I don`t think I`ll want to change it for a better system for a while. It does not have 5.1 decoder, but the sales man talked me into the Marantz 4200 and I would recomend it also.
I spent a lot more than I had planned to spend but don`t think I`ll need to change for a while.

RE: Scan
Hi Nelley,
Don`t wish to air dirty laundry on this board but as your not answering my e-mail request to state when I`ll get a refund, could you post the date I can see my money back on this board?
I can appreciate you may be busy, but you may want to turn auto-responders on, as I`m begining to think you don`t get all my e-mails I send to yellen[at].ku.oc.nacs
If that is the case then there could be a lot of people who have asked for the update and you are not aware of it.
In the mean time I will assume that any interest incurrend on my Credit Card as a result of late refund will be paid by Scan.

Time now: 9 days since return of goods.
RE: Scan
Anyone seen a firmware update on the SCAN site for the 2500?
I`ve sent mine back - to be fair it had an excellent picture, but the other problems (remote and zoom etc) were too much for me.
As I was the first to mention the zoom and remote problems there is a bit of curiosity to see if the firmware fix did fix everything, as all Scan posts seem to concentrate on the remote problem and the fact that the fix was due out soon (that was on the 8th).
All I need to do now is get my money back :-). Sent the unit back on the 8th Feb and have not received the credit to my account yet.

RE: Goodmans surround system
Thanks for that info.
What would you say is the best place to hadware reviews? This site is not the best (does not have a lot of coverage).
I`m not impressed with the DVD buyer mag.

RE: Goodmans surround system
I`m lost. DVD Buyer mag has a review of the 210 and says it has DTS and Dolby Digital 5.1!
Are you saying it does not?
Also the review at T3 suggests it can be handle 5.1 http://www.t3.co.uk/review.asp?rev_id=1688&category=DVD
I`m I missing something?

RE: Scan
Paul,
Thanks for that. Yep that is what is hapening to my picture. I have not worked up to a widescreen TV yet so form time to time would like to zoom in - my wife does not like the black bars top and bottom, I`d rather watch the real thing. So for me (my wife) zoom is a valid feature. But looking at what is out there and see little feedback from others I get the feeling I in the minority.
Scan indicated they will know more tomorrow in an e-mail to be so lets see.

RE: Scan
Thanks all for the replies. Good to see I`m not alone. Sorry can`t feedback on the wide screen TV thing - I`ve a standard TV and I`m not too sure what your question is, sorry :-( but Paul have you noticed the zoom or remote problem?
This is my first machine, and unlike my other usual purchases I did not do extensive shoppping around. I just had a nose the spec was good and went for it.
I`ve now spent the weekend planning my replacement and I noticed that not too many have a zoom feature (or is that the limitation of the sales people?). So is zoom worth being concerend about? I`d like the views of others who have had other DVD`s with the zoom feature - do they all go slow?
I`m glad to see I`m not alone on the remote thing - I don`t know if I could live with that, even if the zoom was never used much. But having looked around the Scan does seem to fair well on performance. My ideal solution would be to hold on to the SCAN box until they have a fix and then get it swapped out for a new one - if SCAN would go for that. Again what do you think of the remote `feature`? Like others it`s driveing me mad when it happens. I see a clear case of returning it under the "Not fit for purpose" sales rule, should I wish to exercises it (which right now I do).
Sorry for the lenght of the message, but I also got the AV6 - I have not unpacked it - wanted to check the DVD was ok before I touched the other box and given my concerns I have not touched the other. Anyone else get it? What do you think? As I bought it as a `set` if I send back the DVD I`d better send back the AV6 as the replacement might not be bought for a while and it might not have the appropriate 5.1 output.

RE: Scan
I`m new to the forum so hope I`ve posted to the right place.
I`ve just recevied my Scan 2500. Two things I ave concerns over - waiting reply from Scan on, and want to know if you withthe same model have notice the same.
1) when you use the zoom Q1 -Q3 the picture goes slower!
2) Also, the remote control does not function correctly. Once a button is pressed all buttons take on that function! EG: if you press the zoom button once the picture goes to Q1 (Correct funtionality) however if you now press stop or fast forward or any other key the screen goes to Q2! If you then hit rewind or any other key again the screen goes to Q2 like zoom was hit again! Another example would be if you hit pause/step then say hit play again the screen will start to step as if pause/step was hit again. A work around seems to be if you hit the keys fast `tap tap` but this is not what I call "fit for purpose". I have followed the trouble shooting guid and powered of and on, and I have used fresh battries - no difference, althought sometimes the problem only apears after a few key presses.
Can anyone confirm this is on theirs or not on theirs (i.e. a fault on mine)?
It`s my first DVD and once I fight with the remote I like it but I`m not prepared to struggle every time I want to move around the menus etc.
Thanks for any help.
