Connectivity or DVD player problem ???

I have recently acquired the Sony DAVS500 home cinema system and I have experienced a minor but irrirating problem.

Upon watching any DVD I can see faint horizontal lines (like interference) scrolling up and down the screen. The problem seems to be intermittent or more apparent on certain backgrounds - I wondered if this problem was a due to my setup or the DVD player itself ??

The player was upgraded on purchase to multi-regional, could this have caused a problem in that the internal components have been damaged ??

The connection from the player to the TV is s-video to scart and is connected to the 2nd scart socket as recommended by others on this board.

Any advice on whether I can isolate this problem to the player or my setup would be gratefully received.

HOME CINEMA PACKAGES - ADVICE ON 3 BELOW !?

I have looked a few of the budget home cinema packages that are on the market (and in my price range!) and have narrowed my choice down to the 3 below. I would be grateful for any general advice on quality of systems and limitations etc -

JVC CP100 AL
SONY DAVS 500
PIONEER NS DV88

Thanks for any comments.
