RE: ARGOS - Warning

Further to my initial first post.
It appears Argos are operating an advertising SCAM.
Advertise through email and site a very special offer such as
camera and printer at £99.98
(making a saving of £130).
Have a small number of these offers available on the internet and for collection
at selected shops.
When selected stock sold, ( unable to buy thereafter due to to non avialability )maintain advert for whole duration of offer and attracting the consumer to visit site for more possible offers.
On 16 December, 2004 when the offer was only 1 hour old I checked stock at 12
shops in my area. NO STOCK for this offer.
On 20 December, 2004 when offer finished all 12 shops had the camera and printer in STOCK.
This is a well known ploy of the doggy Market Trader to encourage interest and
consumer purchase.
I have noticed other special offers by ARGOS in this category.
I decided to report the whole matter to TRADING STANDARDS who were not interested
and stated there was nothing they could do.
I explain the full facts and they told me I would eventually get my money backwhich I did
some 8 days later.
I wonder if some one took £83 from their purse or wallet for 8 days without any
authority how they would feel.
Any advice on my long winded story would be appreciated.

ARGOS - Warning

0n 16 Decemebr, 2004 I ordered via the internet the following which was a special
offer :-

HP 4mp Camera + Memory Card + Photograph Printer £99

There was nothing on the site to say that the items were NOT in stock and I
preceeded with the order form which gave a delivery date of Monday, 20 December, 2004 at the above cost of £99 + delivery.

Approximately 1 hour later I received an email stating that the camera was not
in stock, however they were sending the printer at cost of £79 + delivery.

I only wanted the special offer and there was no reduction in the printer, infact if
I wanted to re order the camera as a single item it would cots £149.

I immediately contacted their service desk at an 0870 number which took 20 minutes to get through. I was informed by their representative that on my request that my
order had been cancelled.

I however, forwarded an email to them a few minutes later through their CANCELLATION system.
Today you will have guessed a delivery van drew up with the PRINTER.
I checked with my credit card company and found that £83 the cost of the printer
had been costed to me by Argos.

I refused to accept the printer.

I therafter contacted their Customer Service Department again at 0870 number and was cut off twice , left hanging on for 10 minutes and in total spent 47 minutes on the
phone to try and sort out this problem.

I was told it was a internet fault and was put through to the I.T. Department who stated
that they had a problem with JOINT special offers. On asking the person his name
he hung up.

I eventually spoke to a manager who informed me to write to Customer Service regarding any complaints I had.

I do not know the legal situation regarding this matter but surely a Company
advertising a offer of 2 items at a total cost to induce to buy them knowing that they have only one item which they will send to you at the FULL price cannot be right.

I will be appreciatative of any advice.

Cheers

RE: HP 4mp Camera + Memory Card + Photograph Printer £99

Just received email.
Although shown at the time of ordering as in stock and 2 days delivery. Argos state that the Camera is OUT OF STOCK and are sending me ONLY the PRINTER at £79 + delivery (FULL PRICE).
The camera they state I can order later I presume at FULL PRICE.
I will now have to cancel FULL order.

DVD Burner. Is it worth it at present ?

I was thinking of buying a DVD burner but notice that there are a lot of little used ones for sale on EBay.
Is there a problem with them or are they not as multi- use as a CDRW writer.
I would appreciate any advice.
Thanks.

RE: Good Retailer Rating

You`re right enemyonpc.

Everyone should have the choice.

Site has now been removed.

Re Barnum I have looked up his history.

His grandson did an autobiography called ` BARNUM`S SLAVES`

He frequently bought his ` Wonders of the World` also known by the
general public at that time as `Freaks`.

He was known to beat and flog them having given one of his slaves
50 lashes for disobedience.

The freaks were part of a `ZOO` culture which Barnum manipulated to
his own ends making him a very wealthy man.

I end my case and again mean no offence although you have justified the
administrator in removing the initial DVD trading site.

RE: Good Retailer Rating

Well Barnum

Your namesake earned a living showing freaks at circus sideshows
so I suppose you could call it piracy of human kind.

The company is highly recommended by the 300 excellent ratings
it got on an auction site.

It is highly secure through CCNOW the worlds top money transaction
business.

Now the 3 dvd`s I received I had previously seen at the cinema so I had
already given my share to the Film Industry.

The dvd`s I recevied were fully sealed with security tabs and with all the normal extras. They did not look like pirates but I bow to your better
judgement.
.

I suppose it is up to the individual if they want to pay £8 for a recent
DVD or £12 to £17 at a suppose recognised dealer .

It is up to the Film Industry to get their act together not people like you
offering lack lustre support.

No offence meant !

Good Retailer Rating

[Pirate site removed]

Bought 3 latest DVD`s from this company ( Malaysian based ) at excellent price.

Payed through CCNOW (secure credit card rating)
Kept fully informed and DVD`s were sent individually and by tracked recorded delivery arriving in about 10 days.

Site has on offer buy 4 get one free.
The seller has good ratings where I first saw him on Yahoo Auctions.

TECHTRONICS: Good Service !

Bought Toshiba 220E from them. Delivered within week.
Before buying I emailed them requesting information as to the item being
in stock, number available and delivery time.
Immediate reply and kept contract delivery with the usual modifications to player.
As to the 220E its some piece of kit, looks, setup and play ability
excellent. far superior to my old Toshibe (1 year old)
Gave me excellent advice re setup of equipment. Have T.V., Cable,
VCR and DVD. Also information for backup of my DVD through
VCR.
Seen previous poor service links to this company and wonder if they
have taken notice ?

X=BOX and DVD HELP ?

Noticed that the X-Box has been reduced by £100.
Does anyone know how good it is for DVD`s ?
Does it play multiregion DVD`s ?
If not can it be hacked ?

NEW TO DVD REVIEWER BUT I THINK THIS IS A BARGAIN !

I have just ordered from

www.splashdvd.com.

a Enemy at the gates = £8.99
b 13th Warrior = £7.49 &
c Blues Brothers = £7.49 (2 disc set)

Postage is included. What is the reputation of this site like?
