RE: ssshhhhh, SC-Firmware now with Macrovision option
Interesting.
After just over five weeks without a DVD player, I got a replacement SC2000 last Tuesday- had the macrovision disable, which was nice as I have to run through the VCR (no SCART TV) previously there would be a very slight shimmer occasionally- the M.V. only really kicked in if you pressed REC on the VCR.
It still has the subtitle quirk though. I`ve decided it`s easier to press the sub button a couple of times than to endure the cost, time and stress of getting it sorted out through SCAN though.
Still won`t buy any more £100`s of computer gear from SCAN any more though.
RE: NEW £200 PLAYER COMING! OOOOOOOOOWWWWWWW SPOOKY!
I think that the least that DVD Reviewer could do, is to ask SCAN to desist from using a positive review of an earlier batch to promote newer, "faulty or less capable" products.
In fact, I`d go as far as to suggest there may be some kind of law against sending "prime quality" product for review, then selling on the cheaper tat to the paying customer.
Maybe the printed magazines should be made aware of the issues so they can make a decision as to telling SCAN to remove their reviews from its promotional material.

RE: Problems with Scan sc2000
I spoke to SCAN`s returns, tech and Customer Services dept today, as after reading about the SC2000 problems, and running a few tests of my own, I`m 95% certain that my unit suffers from the RGB fault.
SCAN will only accept the machine back if I pay the postage to send it back, they will NOT, I repeat NOT arrange for free collection of faulty DVD players. This policy, I was informed by Julie (Customer Care Manager) has been in place since last monday, as it was costing them £25 per time to reclaim the faulty units.
As I`m not an electronics expert, and because I don`t feel I can trust them to assess the unit and report truthfully on its condition, I`m going to have to keep the player, as I`m not paying another £25 on the offchance that I *might* get a replacement, or if I pushed for my money back, the good possibility of being stung for 27% re-stocking fee if they don`t find anything wrong with the unit (and no DVD player).
I informed Julie that SCAN`s penny pinching attitude has lost them a customer, and several £100`s in future orders. I have previously bought £100`s worth of computer gear from SCAN, and thought I`d get the DVD too. It is said that the true measure of a company can be guaged by it`s customer care policy. SCAN falls well short of what I consider sound and fair.
They`ve saved £25, they`ve even managed to sell me a duff DVD player that I`m loathe to return because of the risk of proof of fault, but they`ve lost all my goodwill and future custom.
It`s not all doom and gloom, because I`m not ordinarily wired for RGB, and it took some time and the help of some better epuipped friends to find the fault (which you could argue is irrelevant to my setup as I only use CV) But on principle, if I ever upgrade my TV, I will not get the performance I felt I`d paid for. Perhaps I should have checked these sites, as I ordered mine on the 27th, when reports were that SCAN couldn`t get any replacements until the end of August, yet had "plenty in stock" even if it took two days to deliver.
The SCAN is a good priced model with plenty of features, but I would suggest getting something in writing regarding returns if faulty before handing over your credit card details.
Cheers
John
