Thanks Mickl. Do you know if the DVDR880 is about to be discontinued hence the lower prices or is it just competively priced? I`ll definitely try to get a demo of it on the weekend.

I just hope that the format survives and does go the way of the old Philips flip VCR tape.

I`ve just read through www.dvdplusrw.org and it seems to make a convincing argument that it is the better DVD recordable format.

I`d appreciate if any owners of the Philips could tell me what the real world recording quality is like in LP and EP modes. What is the picture quality like when used as a player for prerecorded DVDs?

I was looking to get a Tosh 220E but as my VCR has now packed up I am considering the DVDR880 and not get the Tosh and VCR.

Is there an obvious way of telling which generation the Philips is? I.e how do you know the one at dixons is first generation?

Is the Toshiba 220E a direct replacement to the 210E?

I`m looking for a DVD player and was initially interested in the 210E, but after looking have been told it has been discontinued. So is the 220E it`s replacement? How does the 220E perform, the reviews seem good? Why is the 220E cheaper than the 210E if it is a direct replacement? Did it loose some features?

I`m primarily interested in picture quality, multi-region, macro disabled, RCE compatible, build quality and compatibility (i.e interfaces not formats - I don`t need MP3, CD-R, etc). Is there a better player than the 220E for the money?

What`s the best way to integrate Home cinema into Hi-Fi?

I am about to embark on to road to home cinema and want to know the best way to fit it into my current hi-fi set up. Due to space limitations my hi-fi and home cinema will have to share the same room.

I have Musical Fidelity pre/power amps driving floor standing speakers. I don`t want to have to get another set of front speakers for the home cinema (as there is not enough room for all those speakers) so my question is...Is there a way of using my existing MF amps and speakers and integrating them with my home cinema? I remeber a long time back that Mordant Short used to make a decoder which also had an amp for the centre and rear speaker only, allowing you to use the hi-fi amp to drive the front speakers. Are decoders like this still made - I`ve looked around and have not been able to find one.

Can anyone suggest an better way of doing this? I still love my Hi-Fi and it takes precedence to the home cinema.

Confused! Please help answer a couple of questions.

I just popped into Richer Sounds ready to buy a Pioneer 444. Just to be sure I asked whether it was multi region and Macro disabled. The guy said he`s sure it was multi region but didn`t think it was macro disabled. He then offered a LG DVD4950 saying it was multi-region and can be macro disabled.

Questions:
1. With the chip hack on the Pioneer 444 is it macro disabled as well as multi region?
2. Do RS sell the equipment (Pioneer 444) already `chipped` or do I have to request it to be done?
3. Anyone know about the LG player I was offered? It was more expensive at £199.95.
4. For the same price they also sell the Sony DVPNS700. Is it better than the LG and Pioneer?

Amazon is now selling the Pioneer 444s for £159! Not sure if it`s already multi-region enabled. Can anyone comment?
