Toshiba SD-220E Multi-region modified, but dont play DVD

Hi, I got the SD-220e with the multi-region mod done to it (6 zones)by the dealer in UK, now im posted in the Bangladesh, got 11 DVDs to tryout, only 2 worked, the rest hav this on screen "not PAL" and message on player "playback restricted". I NEED HELP here. Its driving me crazy. Could this be because the DVDs are pirated copies (most of the stuffs here are pirated) or i have been ripped off by the dealer. How do i know if it has really been moded??
