RE: TOSHIBA SD220E PROBLEM
The one from chez was corrupt as of about a month ago (wouldn`t unpack IIRC) - i`ve got a full copy stashed away somewhere if need be - I haven`t used used it myself as mine was already done, so I can`t confirm it does the business...
If you need it drop me a line... my email address contains "ngspamtrap" and "@btinternet.com" (work it out) - the archive (RARd) is 1003k
You need a CD writer to be able to create the hack disc though.
RE: kwik save technosonic dvd 802c - hack needed
I can confirm this works on *my* 602C - I get the region shown in the centre of the screen and use the cursors to alter it.
To Paul: I think I saw a different hack screen like the one you describe the other day - I think it was on www.dvdrhelp.com but couldn`t find it when I tried again yesterday - you may need to alter the region manually at a guess to play other regions, the country denoting the general area / region that the disc is from - IIRC they`re:
1 - Americas
2 - Europe
3 - Far East
4 - Australia
RE: Toshiba SD220 multiregion @ Richer Sounds / RCE ?
Don`t know i`m afraid, don`t have it to try... The only other thing I could possibly suggest is a hacked firmware for it from here:
http://sd220e.chez.tiscali.fr/
According to several people on uk.media.dvd it worked for them, but I think i`ve seen one reply saying it didn`t work for them - whether it trashed his player entirely is something I *don`t* know !
RE: Toshiba SD220 multiregion @ Richer Sounds / RCE ?
Mine says R2 as well, R0 is the "true" multi-region code AFAIK, R1 is the code for America / Canada.
R3 is for asia if that`s any use, and R4 is Australia / New Zealand I think.
I don`t know if you use newsgroups, but uk.media.dvd is a great place to find out which retailers are the best for ordering from abroad.
I`ll start you off with www.dddhouse.com (HK$1.00=approx £0.08, and most DVDs work out to about US$10.50 each.
RE: Toshiba SD220 multiregion @ Richer Sounds / RCE ?
I`ve just had a reply from Toshiba, as follows:
Dear Mr Wilson,
Thank you for your recent enquiry. Please find the information that you
requested as follows:
The first SD120E and SD220E models that were produced have a problem reading "The Matrix" DVD due to the firmware installed, however that problem has since been rectified. We do not have details of the serial numbers to advise which DVD players do not have the required updated firmware, but to find out what firmware your DVD player has there is a simple procedure which you can follow.
With no disc in the player press the ZOOM button on the remote control,
followed by the numbers 606 and then by the ZOOM button again. This will display the version number of the firmware in the player on the TV screen. The SETUP button will exit this display.
If you have firmware version V1.4 or V1.5 then you have the updated firmware. If you have any other firmware version below this then please contact us on the number provided below for further assistance in this matter.
If you have any further queries or would like to go through your query with an advisor you can contact us on 0115 9766958, Monday - Friday 8.00-20.00, Saturday 8.00-18.00 and Sunday 10.00-16.00, or feel free to reply by E-mail.
We trust that the information is to your satisfaction. If you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us on the above number.
Kind regards,
Kate White

RE: Toshiba SD220 multiregion @ Richer Sounds / RCE ?
"Toshiba acknowledged this and have corrected the problem, but only in Players manufactured since April/May. Ask your dealer for a replacement."
Do you know if there are any ways to tell which is from a newer batch, short of trying a disc with a known problem ? (serial number perhaps)
If it`s any use my ser. no. is 25SLB25551
RE: Toshiba SD220 multiregion @ Richer Sounds / RCE ?
According to the techtronics.com website (they make a hardware hack) for the SD220:
"This player can play RCE titles, but may require Preliminary Checks"
- it gives no indication what these checks may be as far as I can tell.
I have a feeling it may be dependent on the hardware hack used, which is why I was asking if the hacked Richer Sounds model is selling does `em :-}
Toshiba SD220 multiregion @ Richer Sounds / RCE ?
I bought one of these last night but don`t have any RCE discs to try on it.
Can anyone confirm if this machine will play them ?
The only thing the muppet in the shop would say was "it should be on the net".
Thanks :-)
