I also have the DV 444, it seems almost impossible to hack! (unless u want to pay £50!)

The possible hack is, as follows:

1 Turn on your dvd player without a disk
2 Press `setup`
3 Press `right arrow` until `general` is selected
4 Press `down arrow` once
5 Press `display`
6 Press `condition memory`
7 Press `1`, `2`, `3`, `4`, `5` or `6`, for the region
8 Press `setup`

This dosent work on my machine, let me know if you find anything else!
