philips 880 copies won`t play

A FRIEND HAS BOUGHT A PHILIPS DVD RECORDER MODEL 880.
HE CAN COPY DVD`S TO THE DVD+R OR DVD+RW BUT THE COPIES WILL NOT PLAY ON OTHER STAND ALONE PLAYERS.

CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF HE IS DOING SOMETHING WRONG OR DOES HE NEED TO ADJUST SOME TYPE OF SETTING .

samsung h40 dvd recorder

can you help ,has anyone got the new samsung dvd recorder h40 .
i just want to know if they are any good or should i go for the philips 880.
if anyone can help with this or my other post, there`s £200 difference between the two models mentioned.
