RE: Wanted: Wanted: Good Spec. DVD Player

Thanks to all for those suggestions - any more ideas or thoughts?

Or is there anyone upgrading who wants to sell me theirs..?

RE: Wanted: Wanted: Good Spec. DVD Player

I really would appreciate any thoughts/advice/suggestions that people have.

Many thanks

Wanted: Wanted: Good Spec. DVD Player

Hi to all

I`m looking for a secondhand dvd player that has the following spec.:-

Essential:
1. Ability to play audio cds at reasonable quality (through an external amp - hence must have l+r audio out) - I wouldn`t expect it to be as good a standalone cd player but not cr*p either!
2. Able to play RCE disks
3. Macrovision disabled
7. A player that`s truly multi-region
4. Able to play both VCD and SVCD files burnt onto cdrs with no problems eg. no sound loss/lipsynch etc. issues
5. Able to play .mpeg and .avi files burnt onto cdrs
6. Happy to accept/play any type of cdr and crw media thrown at it (ie. including the `cheap as chips type!)8. A player with on-board DD/DTS/5.1 decoder - pref. with both digital and optical outputs - although having read what Westy has to say about onboard decoders, I`m not so sure anymore
9. A player that will allow me to add a starter home cinema av package - I`m thinking about the Yamaha VS10 home cinema kit - with no connection/decoder/getting loads of new cables etc. problems!
10. A make/model that`s been proven to be generally consistently reliable
11. A player with as many i/o sockets as possible
12. Black in colour (preferably)
13. Has a manual (and pref. also original receipt and warranty)

Desirable:
1. Able to play XVCDs
2. No problems with all type of cdrw`s (ie. both cheap and not-so-cheap disks will play!)
3. Not cheap looking - ok, so not `too` cheap looking! - subjective and unlikely, I know!
4. Cool in design/looks - again, subjective and unlikely, I know!
5. Scart socket actually supplied!
6. Other connector leads supplied!

I realise this is a big (and maybe unrealistic) ask especially as my budget is c.£100 - hence I`m looking at secondhand, unless anyone knows better!

Thankyou to all who reply and/or offer advice.

Could anyone please give me the answers to the following queries - I`ve looked all over these forums and the web and can`t find the definitive answers.

1. Is there a (non-hardware) hack to disable macrovision on this player?
2. Is there a way to enable the player to play SVCDs with no sound loss/lipsynch problems?
3. I have heard that the player is fussy about only liking branded cdrs/cdrws - is this true as far as any owners of this machine know?
4 What is people`s experience of this player?

Any advice or info gratefully received. Many thanks to all who reply.

RE: SUPERDRUG DVD PLAYER £64.99

This is a repost of my "sorry for being so thick but..." questions posted a couple of days ago. I`d be REALLY grateful for some answers.

1. Will this (or any other dvd player) work if you have a tv with no scart socket?

2. What exactly are the input and output sockets on this machine?

3. Can I play back sound through a hi-fi system and if so, how?

4. Does it have DTS and/or 5.1 surround sound? What equipment do I need to have playback in these formats?

5. Is it possible to hook the dvd player up with a vhs video recorder and
a) still playback dvds/vhs tapes through the tv?
b) record dvds onto vhs tapes?

6. Given the problems some people seem to have had playing dvd files copied from the web onto cdrs:-
a) does this machine have a problem playing vcds copied onto on any cdrs or is it fussy about certain file types/brands of cdr?
b) is there an issue with certain file types (eg .mpeg vs .avi)

7. Having read all the posts, I`m (still) a little unsure of this player plays vcds out of the box or if you need to input the hacks to enable it to play them?

8. Will it play svcds? What are these exactly?!

9. Can you actually disable macrovision on the player? If so, how?

Again, apologies for repeating these idiot-type questions but any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all who reply.
