RE: little `squares` on the screen???
Strange, mine seems to be sorted now. I think I will have to watch a few different discs to make sure.
One thing I have noticed about the firmware upgrade though - the sound level from the centre speakers is not as strong as before when playing DVDs. I have tinkered with all the volume controls, bass, treble, etc but when there is a strong soundtrack running in the background it can be hard to pick out the main dialogue.

RE: little `squares` on the screen???
Good News!
The firmware upgrade seems to have solved the problem. I sat through all 3.5 hours of the Special Edition of Lord of the Rings and never saw a single pixellation bar appear.

ps I installed the 25S version from the Philips website.
RE: Philips MX3800D Hack Required
Any news of a true multi-region Hack yet? Did anyone try different number combinations (001, 991, etc.) to see if they work?

I had the same problem, but I think I may have found the solution. I went to the Philips website to look for any info on what the problem is and happened to check in the Downloads section and founs a firmware upgrade for the machine. Basically, you download a 592Kb Zip file, extract it (file is around 1Mb), burn it onto a CD, then put the CD in the DVD Player. The file self extracts and upgrades the firmware. I did mine and played a film for half an hour afterwards and not a single line appeared.
I am going to watch Lord of the Rings later for a full test of the upgrade. If it doesn`t happen on there, it won`t happen anywhere!
