No skills whatsoever but a guy where I work has degrees in electronics and may become my hero. Most people suggest it is the HDMI board which is causing the issue so I'll get him to look at that first. Cheers Rob.

Onkyo receiver broken

My Onkyo receiver stopped working. The speaker icons in the LED display were not showing, so I had no sound. After a little reading through a few forums I found that the failure was quite common. One (quick) fix suggested heat lamps or hair driers in through the vents then their amp came back to life. Nothing to lose I tried the hair dryer trick and lo and behold it worked. My question is...why did this work? After the amp had been off for a bit it cooled and did not start again without using the hair dryer. Is there a way this can be cheaply fixed to stop these hair drier antics?

PS4 games

PlayAsia are taking preorders on most PS4 games for £38.76. Will this affect which DLC you have to download when it's released ? The games are region free but I believe on the PS3 if you have a US version of a game you must purchase the relevant content.

Its not the fact I don`t remember the password. I had done a firmware update because I heard it dealt with some issues with the PS Vita`s connection issues I was having. This then undid all of my settings for my router and left me having to set it up again. So now I have given it a new SSID but hidden the broadcast of it. So no one looking for access points will see it but if you type it in you gain access. How safe is doing this ? Surely not seeing it as an access point is just as safe as seeing it and guessing passwords.

Hello I`m not too hot on the settings for this router. I had it password set once and cannot remember for the life of me how I did it. Would one of you techies be able to scan the manual(available online) and let me know how to set it with a password again. The nearest I have been able to secure it is hiding the broadcast of my SSID. Thanks in advance.

Dual Play

I understand the way Dual Play TV`s let you view two images on one TV. The 3D image is split to give two players a 2D view of their own gameplay. But how is the sound split ? I`ve done various searches for this subject and it`s not even been mentioned.

How are you finding the audio book Rob ? I started it but couldn`t finish it. The guy reading did my head in. He wasn`t consistent with pronunciations and basically sent me to sleep. I bought the paperbacks straight away and have enjoyed them immensely .

Looking for a 5.1 speaker setup around the £400 mark.

Onkyo TX-NR509 request.

Just acquired this AV Amp and was wondering if anyone has the Audyssey 2EQ microphone that comes with the retail version to set up the speaker system. If anyone has got it and is willing to send me it I will cover all the postage costs to borrow it and return it.

Not updated mine for a while but but fiancée`s brother had put a couple a 1080p`s with DTS sound on my hard drive the other day. I didn`t hold out much hope for them working as I`d read that they didn`t stream too well but was surprised that they did without stutter. Just can`t fast forward them  but I get that with just 720p.

Has anyone seen or heard of the LA Noire RockStar Pass ? I`ve only seen it mentioned in conjunction with the U.S. version and hence priced in dollars.  What it does is gives you all of the future DLC as it becomes available for a one off price. At the moment it is on offer for $9.99, it also has a run down of the individual pricing on the DLC and you make a good saving with the Pass. Just have to keep the old eyes peeled on the store.

Worked like a charm Miles. Thanks a lot. Though I don`t remember the fiancée having to uncheck boxes and she didn`t have this trouble. Thanks again. Sorry just another quick question. If I remove the files from my PC will the ipod delete them when I resync new music ?

Help with my ipod Nano 5th Gen.

I`ve been trying to sync music to my ipod with no success. If I add files to my Library they show up on screen but when I go to sync it I get a message at the top of the screen telling me it is sync`d with seconds. The albums do not appear on my ipod. If I click the Music tab in my devices I can drag albums over and they auto sync and appear on my ipod. I know this works and I can listen to my music but I like the way it looks on Library. Why won`t it sync via Library like it does on my girlfriends ipod ?

Playing through the coop now with my girlfriend. Can`t wait for the (free) DLC and have loads more lovely levels. BTW, she`s playing on PC and me on the PS3 using only one retail copy and the code given with it. I mentioned this because I read quite a bit before launch that said this would not be possible. :)

No it was an Ebay seller. Just had an update on the tracking site , now in transit. Obviously my posting this started the ball rolling again.

Customs wait times..

I ordered an item from Hong Kong on the 23rd of April. I`ve followed its progress from there with the tracking info given to me by the seller. Since the 4th of May it has been sat in the UK `pending customs inspection`. Just wondering if any of you have similar stories and how long you`ve had to wait for the inspection ?
