RE: Philips dvdr880 firmware upgrade
Have upgraded the firmware and the player is no different than it was before, It wont play original region 2 discs, it wont play or record onto +R discs, it will only work with +RW discs and finalizes these at random. Have contacted philips direct and they have said we need to write to thier head office but wouldnt commit to what they would actually do. I`ll get the letter off on Monday and wait and see.
RE: Philips dvdr880 firmware upgrade
Hi JohnF. There is no guarantee left on the machine and local repair shops wont even touch it. I dont want to take it to Currys as they are reluctant to provide me with a price for for fixing it and it`ll probably end up costing a couple of hundred quid knowing them. I`d rather put the money to a new panasonic. I`ll try the firmware and if it doesnt help then the machine will go on ebay for spares.
RE: Philips dvdr880 firmware upgrade
Hi. Sorry to hear you had the same problems, I think Philips have a lot to answer for with this machine, I for one will NOT be purchasing anything else like this from them. I`m going to see if a DIY firmware upgrade helps, if not then who knows. I havent found a local repair shop who is willing to even look at it.
Philips dvdr880 firmware upgrade
Hi I have a philips dvdr880 which has now all but died, it wont play, it wont record, it wont do anything much apart from spin discs. I have contacted several local repair companies and they all say the same thing "sorry, we wont touch one of those!". Before I throw it in the bin I have decided to try to upgrade the firmware to see if it makes any differece but have no clue how. Does anyone have any info on where the upgrade can be found and how to use it? Please help as my patience is wearing thin and this very poor excuse for a dvd recorder is moving ever closer to the rubbish bin.
Toshiba SD-214E Multi-region hack.
Hi. Does anyone know of a multi-region hack for a toshiba sd-214e? I can`t find one on this site and wondered if anyone has found one elsewhere or maybe used one from a different machine or manufacturer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Macrovision Copyguard Colourstripe Remover Philips DVD recorder
Hi. Does anyone know of, or better still has used a device that will remove macrovision, colourstripe and copyguard when trying to copy films using a philips dvdr880. I`ve found a few devices on the net but they don`t seem to remove all of the protection and most state they won`t work with a philips dvd recorder. There must be a device somewhere that will work but I`m having a hell of a job to find it. There must be thousands of people who have done this already so please help!
RE: Philips dvd recorder region code question.
Thanks very much for your help.
Philips dvd recorder region code question.
I have a philips dvdr880 which is currently set to region 2. Will this region code be imprinted onto any discs i record or will they be region free?
RE: Copy protection information.
Cheers for your advice Mike. I think I`ll go with the extra box solution for now. I`ve only just bought the dvd recorder and from what I`ve read it might become tempremental in the future so I don`t want to mess with it if there is a chance it`s got to go back. I wouldn`t have bought it if I`d discovered this site first!
Copy protection information.
I have a philips dvdr880 and I`m tying to put copies of my old vhs tapes onto dvd so it will make life easier in the future. Some videos copy ok but some bring up the message "copy protection" on the dvd recorder. Is this macrovision at work and can I get around it or is that just for vhs to vhs and this is something else? Please help.
Philips DVDR880 Remote hack problem.
Hi. I wish to raise the old question of remote hacking again. Sorry folks but I need help. I just bought a dvdr880 which was region 2. I`ve tried the following numbers to make it multiregion.
222 222 005 255
121 212 005 255
121 212 005 001
They all convert the machine from region 2 to region 1 so my bought region 2 discs will not work.
I used the code
121 212 005 002
to make it a region 2 player again and guess what? The region 1 discs won`t work. Does anyone know anything which might help make it truly multi region? Is it a firmware issue?
