RE: Which DVD Recorder Works!?

I think you can say bad things about every manufacturer. I have had problems with everything, although my DVD890R is still going strong and I have had no probelms with it (touch wood), and hopefully I wont. I put a lot of money in to my home entertainment for different rooms in my house and hopefully they will all last. With technology moving as fast as it is repair shops are finding it harder to fix the electronics as the technology is moving at such a fast rate. Many of the big names like Sony, Philips, Thomson, Panasonic, etc are building more complex systems but with some high risks. Best to stay with a make you like and enjoy and form your own opinions around your friends and familys comments. The Internet is a good source but can be unreliable as people try to smear brands because of their tastes and not their true experiences.

RE: Philips DVDR890 Nightmare

I have had my 890R for ages now and have had no problems. It may be a batch problem which went to Empire Direct, but I have tested my one to the limit and it is fine. One thing though, they do recommend that you only use certain DVD+RWs and DVD+Rs as the manufacturers of some discs tend to screw up on the creating of discs - mainly cos they want them to work across as many recorders as possible. Panasonic and its DVD (-) realm I feel will slide away while the Philips/Toshiba/Sony formats will continue to grow. Philips being the pioneer in the recording technology as was Sony with MD.
Beware of the single/dual layer problems between discs and different compatability issues.

RE: Philips DVD Recorder Problems!

I have the Philips DVD890R and it is superb! G8t machine that does the lot! You can edit discs to skip adverts and choose your own picture for the chapter. Works well on other players - including the PS2!!!!

Had it for several months now. What a machine...

RE: Advice Please - DVD Player that plays copied dvd`s

You just can`t beat it:

It is more than say the Hyundai 302A (£60 from PantherOnline), but it is more reliable and plays better. Can`t beat it for Mulitregion multidisk playing. It even plays DVD+RWs!!!!

RE: Unable to play DVD-RWs on PS2 and Hyundai 320A!

Yes, the Hyundai is DVD-RW compatible, it is all over the documentation and sales literature on all sites. I haven`t tried any other discs yet, but will try it, thanks. My PS2 is older than my cousins by 6 months, mine was bought in June 2001.

Unable to play DVD-RWs on PS2 and Hyundai 320A!

I have a Philips DVD Re-recorder (890) but I cannot play my recorded DVD-RWs on my PS2 or Hyundai DVD Player (320A). My cousin can play them on his Playstation 2, but when I try the same (original Philips DVD-RW) disc it says it can`t read it "Error reading disc".
The Hyundai player says "No Disc".

- Any ideas anyone? It is very frustrating!
