If its that hack used to put the machine into test mode well then yeah I have tried it and it works great.

Had no problems with playback of discs. Only thing I found when copying from no PAL source was to make sure you force the recorder to record PAL as otherwise is will record the same standard as the source that is supplied.

Another thing I have had no real problems with errors on this machine. Only thing is the lazer has a narrow beam, meaning that if you have a dvd has a few scraps on it it may have problems recording on it with out disc errors appearing. So either use on your PC to record to or get the "brasso out" - this will take even the biggest of scraps out with bit of elbow grease - allowing perfect recording and playback once more.

I will check out my hack for the 890 to confirm that It is the same one you are talking about.
