RE: broadband who do you recommend?

If you are on BT ADSL chances are you can go with any ISP you want, not just the ones listed.

I`m with a company called Zen, who are samller than the ones listed & really are excellent - can`t fault the connection or customer service/technical support.

Their site is www.zen.co.uk

You need to pick an ISP with a package that suits you for example, some restrict peer to peer usage, or have tiny download limits, if you are a light user thats fine, you`ll save a bit of cash, but it could work out expensive or be restrictive if you constantly go over your limit.

A good place to start your ISP search is www.adslguide.org.uk, they list most ADSL ISPs if not all of them. Also, check out their forums to see what customers of the ISPs think of them etc before you sign up.

RE: 2 FREE VODAFONE SIMS

They were when that was posted though. Vodafone do the offer for a few days every few weeks.

If you want to know when and where you can get free SIM cards, check out www.simalert.com & forum.simalert.com

RE: Best Deal on Mobile Contract?

There are ways of getting way better deals from O2 than that. On Pay as you go as well.

For £15 I get

300 free texts (free monthly allowance),

100 Xnet anytime minutes (calls 100 bolt on @ £12.99, you have to phone customer service and ask for this it isn`t on their website or bolt on line)

150 Xnet off peak minutes (talk alot more allowance for topping up £15, no credit is taken)

1MB GPRS (free monthly allowance)

£2.01 `spare` credit to spend on what I want.
It really annoyed my friend when I got this, as he just renewed his contract with them and got much less, he`d been with them for years and I only started using them 2 months ago.

Of course, you have to either pay for a new phone or use an existing one, but if all you are after is a decent tariff, it aint too bad!

RE: Best Deal on Mobile Contract?

Try looking at T-Mobile`s Flext tariffs.

If you buy from their website Flext 35 costs £26.50 at the moment, for this you get £180 of credit to use on calls, texts and photo messages. This equates to around 600 X-net anytime minutes and 600 texts a month.

RE: O2 pay as you go users

It`s an O2 joining treat and is free for the first 3 months for new users. Apparently though O2 also aren`t charging the people who have been with them a while at the moment. Don`t know if they mean not to or if its a mistake.

RE: Free Vodaphone Sim Card

It was the correct link, but the offer has now finished it seems. It only lasted a few hours & from what I read elsewhere loads of people couldn`t get it to work properly when it was up anyway :(

RE: Cheap Mobile Calls 15p per minute to any network 5p Per Text

Tesco have just launced a similar service called `Tesco Value Mobile` alongside their standard mobile phone tariff.

http://www.tescomobile.com/valuesim.aspx?pc=22&us=1&h=1

Same rate as easyMobile & Fresh, but uses O2 as its network rather than T-Mobile.

One thing to note with all these cheap tariffs is that you can`t use picture messaging or GPRS services

RE: Free calls with BT communicator

My headset just arrived in the post yesterday :) I didn`t need to do anything to get it, they just sent it, I didn`t even get a confirmation email. I think the code references are to do with a previous offer.

The headset ain`t bad for a free one, you just plug it into the mic and headphone socket of your PC

RE: o2 £20 free credit

`tis exactly what it is, the original user gets either £20 or £2.50 credit, depending if they have a contract or a pay as you go phone.

Free calls with BT communicator

BT have an offer on at the moment whereby if you sign up for their BT communicator thingy you get free PC to landline calls for 3 months, plus if you`re one of the first 10,000 to join you get a free headset as well. Link below.....

RE: O2 Online Sim 300 txt per month free Sim offer is back on

You can change to the 300 text message tariff when the SIM is activated, just text `ONMSG` to 21300, to cahnge back to the 100 XNet minutes/texts text `ONCALLSMSG` to the same number.

There is a full list of all the tariffs and options you can have here... http://www.o2.co.uk/productsservices/boltons/online

RE: 3000 free texts/month orange payg

It works the same as the free text offer, the free mins and texts last for a month but the credit lasts until you use it all.

so your daughter could use the free voice & texts allowance in month one, and whatever remaining credit she has in month 2.

RE: 3000 free texts/month orange payg

On a similar note O2 have a new online PAYG tariff, like the 300 free text message for £10 top up, but instead you get 100 cross network anytime minutes or 100 text messages or a mixture of both for free (plus the 1MB GPRS allowance that comes with the online tariffs). You also still get your £10 top up to spend how you like.

more info at the O2 Shop.... http://shop.o2.co.uk & click on `Sim Only` on the left

RE: Free O2 PAYG Sims today only

You can keep your number, just request a Port Authorisation Code (PAC code) from your existing mobile company (If it`s O2 email them at erace[at]ku.oc.2o).

Then go to O2s helpfiles on its website, & find the `How can I keep my mobile number? ` page & you should get a contact us form where you can give them your Code and they will transfer your number accross to your new sim.

Takes about a week for the transfer to take place.

RE: Free O2 PAYG Sims today only

Yep, you do get 300 free text messages & 1MB GPRS content, so good value if you use them.

BTW you don`t have to top up £10 every month, The SMS & GPRS allowance is valid for a month from each time you top up. So if you don`t want to topup for a month or so you don`t have to, you`ll just be charged for your SMS` and GPRS `til you do. :)

RE: Taken plunge with Broadband - I think it is a good deal?

New offering from plusnet - £14.99 a month with a 1 GB of data transfer a month, though you can upgrade it at £2.50 per GB if you go over, up to a max of £10, after that you can use it all you want, meaning you`ll never pay more than £24.99 for unlimited broadband access.

RE: Pipex ADSL 512K - £17.95 setup fee then £23.45pm

At the moment, if jou sign up and already have adsl, they will waive the fee you have to pay BT if you want to move from one ADSL service to another (saving £41).

I`ve been with PIPEX for well over a year now and have had no major problems, As far as I can remember I`ve had two outages, both turned out to be BTs fault and effected most ISPs so can`t really blame PIPEX for those. When there is a problem with the connection they tend to give you a dial up number so you don`t have to go without internet access, but you might have to ask for this, it depends who you speak to.

Mail servers were a bit dodgy a while back but that all seems to have been sorted now.

Also, As niteowl said, get a firewall. Lots of the personal ones are free and it will surprise you how many times you get scanned, even with a normal modem connection
