RE: VideoLAN freeware makes ALL PCs multi-region!

There is no mention anywhere that it allows multiregion playback from a region locked DVD drive..

There are different forms of region lock on a PC. There is software lock and hardware lock. Most DVD drives need flashing to enable multiregion or the drive becomes locked after 5 changes of region (some flashes make the drive region free -others stop the counter counting down to lock the drive).

Then you usually have to use a program to unlock the software side (dvdgenie etc).
This videolan software may not have a region lock in it, but does it bypass the hardware lock ?

RE: Hack needed for Minato ec-105b Home theatre

Anybody found the mutiregion hack yet ?

RE: dva-105b from netto as from 2morrow, full home enter sys, sur sound spe,£89.99

If its the same as the Minato EC-105B (which seems most likely) that they were selling a couple of weeks ago then its NOT multiregion straight out of the box.
It plays many Region 1 discs automatically (so could lead owners that have tried only a few discs to think its multiregion), but others come up with the "wrong region" screen. There is a work around using the "prog" button to jump to a title/chapter and bypass the region check for discs that don`t play automatically.

The player looks the same as the Eltax spirit /dv-109 (the casing and back connections are identical). The multiregion hack for the Eltax does not work though.

RE: Hack needed for Minato ec-105b Home theatre

All you need is to try jumping to a different title or chapter. It bypasses the region check.
most of the films are Title 1. With "behind Enemy Lines " the film must be at a different title number. Just try different numbers until the film starts. Always keep the chapter number at 1 or you will start futher into the film than the start.
I have tried it with the following films and all have played . Title (TT) 1 and chapter (CH) 1 were the start of the film on these:
Hollow Man (and this is an RCE title)
Independance day
Aliens
Bedazzled

The majority of my Region 1 discs play automatically without any messing though. (24 that i have tried so far ,and 8 that have needed the program jump trick)

RE: Eltax Spirit

Hint... Check the Eltax website ;)

Press "set-up"
enter " 0 0 0 0"
press "next /skip forwards" button.

There should be a new option in the menu to select the region..

Have fun...

RE: Hack needed for Minato ec-105b Home theatre

Not found a full multiregion hack yet. The player is the same physically as an Eltax DR109 / Spirit system but the hack for the Eltax does not work. The Eltax must have a different firmware as it does not do pro-logic2 like the Minato.

Many R1 discs play automatically ( well over 75% of mine play without any hack or fiddles).
Ones that come up with the "wrong region" screen can be made to play by:
Press the " Prog" button.
press 1 , 1 then go down to where it says "start" and press enter.
The film will then start
It leaves "program" displayed on the screen but you can get rid of this by pressing "prog" ,selecting "stop", then "exit" (they highlight automatically when you press "prog" again anyway).
Using this method you can get any disc to play.. It will suffice until the multiregion hack becomes known.
