As it happens after reading your message I did a search for some Lite-On recorders and found one that fitted my needs. It arrived this afternoon but I`ve haven`t had a chance to set it up yet.

Indeed. I`ve also heard that sometimes the macrovision protection can be incorrectly activated on non protected items, including home videos.

Aapprantly some DVD recorders only scan for macrovision for the first few seconds. Does anyone know of any recorders that this applies to?

DVD recorders that are macro free?

I am looking for a DVD recorder that has macrovision disabled and which ideally is also multiregion.

My understanding is that some DVD recorders are sold with macrovision disabled, one being the Tesco Technica DVDR2005. I`m also aware that there are some that can be hacked to make them macro-free

I don`t have alot to spend so I`m open to buying second hand. Basically I`m looking to spend about £50, possibly slightly higher.

I`ve been looking on ebay and there are some great deals there, but I don`t know whether any are macrovision free or can be made so without additional equipment. Speaking of which I know about Sonel but I`ve heard they`d don`t always give such good recordings?

In addition to the above features I am looking for decent reliable recorder. I was suprised to find that some DVD recorders with hard drives were in my price range, and have heard of some that are macrovision free. A HDD DVD recorder would certainly be nice but is by no means essential.

If anyone could help me here it would be much appreciated.

looking for a good multi-region DVD player

I`m looking for a good multi-region DVD player for about £50. Its needs to be one that can be purchased in a store (I don`t want to order online with the current post strikes). I`m also hoping to find one with a zoom feature as having checked comets` and currys` websites they seem to suggest most players don`t have them any more, and as I`ll be using the player with 4:3 TV, it would be a very useful feature to have.

If someone could recommend me one, that would be a great help.

RE: PAL/NTSC selectable - what exactly does it mean?

Firstly I am in the UK (I didn`t mention that in my first post, although it was probably obvious) so any DVD player I get would have to be PAL but I want to get one which will play NSTC DVDs and hopefully one which is multi-region.

I would mainly be using it on my main TV which is a Sony Trinitron, it is fairly new as it was only purchased in December 2001. However i may also occasionally want to use it with another tv I have. This other tv is an Alba which I have had for about 8 years. I expect the Sony Trinitron will play PAL 60 but I don`t think the Alba will.

So basically what I am looking for is a DVD player will play both PAL & NTSC on my tv although i`d prefer one which plays NTSC on any PAL tv if that is possible. I`d also like it to be multi-region. I visited my local outlet of Currys and asked about it there. I was told that a DVD player they had for sale called the Scott 838e2 (or the Advance TS ADT 838e2 as it is called on Currys website) would play NTSC DVDs on any PAL tv as long as it had a scart connection and that it was multi-region but that they weren`t allowed to advertise it being multi-region (indeed on Currys website it says nothing about it being multi-region although according to the manufactures website it is "Region Code Free" & "NTSC/PAL selectable") . I also looked at another DVD player: the "Matsui DVD Player DVD225" which Currys advertised as being able to be multi-region by entering a code avaliable on their website but I don`t know if this allows NTSC playback on PAL tvs.

I am grateful for any advice you can give me.

I am in need of some information. I am trying to get a DVD player that will play both PAL & NTSC DVDs on a PAL tv. Some DVD players say they will play NTSC if u have a suitable tv but i am looking for one that will play NTSC on any PAL tv. Some players say "NTSC/PAL selectable" does this mean that it will play NTSC DVDs on a PAL tv? Could someone please tell me how to recognise a DVD player that will play NTSC on a PAL tv.

Scott 838 e2. Is it multi region?

I desperately need some info on the Scott 838 e2 DVD player (or the Advance TS ADT 838e2 as it is called on some sites). I have been told told that it is multi region but many websites do not state this (only that it is Region 2). Also it is "NTSC/PAL selectable" does this mean that it will play NTSC DVDs on a PAL tv? Also is it a good DVD player does it have any faults? I would be very grateful if anyone could help me by giving me info on this.
