RE: £29.99 DVD player at Currys

Popped in to the store in Stevenage and they had pallet loads !

Its small, no display, has scart phono and co-ax sokets on the rear. Didn`t get one as the muppets that work in the stor had no idea if it supported DVD-R. Ended up paying the extra fiver and got the Akura ADV13S out of Superdrug.

RE: Akura ADV13S vs. Akura ADV15S

I phoned a tech support number (01422 203676) as I was concerned that the ADV13S would not play DVD-R disk used to burn home movies on. The guy there tested one and confirmed it played so I popped along to the nearest superdrug that had one in stock and purchased it.

The manual states (quote) Scart R-G-B output x 1 (unquote) but gives no pin outs to confirm its fully wired.

For a £35 player the picture quality on our 10 year old sons 14" TV is good. It played a home movie (holiday) DVD fine, and played a ripped DVD from one source fine, but woud not play a ripped DVD done on my PC using branded (sony TDK) DVD-R disks. Maybe this is due to sothing in the commpression when I ripped the disk ??? Not tried MP3s yet.

All in all a very nice player for the money. Puts my old Awia 320 (which cost over £200 two years ago) to shame !
