About this user: No introduction needed. But here`s a little something from Captain Koons (Quentin Tarantino`s PULP FICTION).
" This watch was on your Daddy`s wrist when he was shot down over Hanoi. He was captured and put in a Vietnamese prison camp. Now he knew if the gooks ever saw the watch it would be confiscated. The way your Daddy looked at it, that watch was your birthright. And he`d be damned if any slopeheads were gonna put their greasy yella hands on his boy`s birthright. So he hid it in the one place he knew he could hide somethin`. His ass. Five long years, he wore this watch up his ass. Then when he died of disentary, he gave me the watch. I hid this uncomfortable hunk of metal up my ass for two years. Then, after seven years, I was sent home to my family. And now, little man, I give the watch to you. "

RE: Conspiracy Theory........which one do you subscribe to?
The Moon Landing has always seemed fake. I mean, if NASA do not have the time or funding in this day and age, then how was it possibly back in July 20th 1969?

RE: Could someone recomend me a Shaw Brothers movie?
Make sure to watch the SB titles directed by Chang Cheh. He was the most recognised action performer/choreographer of the industry and a personal favourite of Quentin Tarantino. A good starting point would be THE ONE ARMED SWORDSMAN (1967), which is a classic SB production and would serve as a handy introduction to the genre.
Other essential SB movies:
[*]Eight Diagram Pole Fighter (Liu Chia-liang 1984)
[*]Death Duel (Chor Yuan 1977)
[*]Legendary Weapons of China (Liu Chia-liang 1982)
I hope that helps.

Quote:
1) What percentage of your DVDs would you say you have actually watched?
All of them - I dont buy dvd`s to have them lying around the place gathering dust.
Quote:
2) What percentage have you watched more than once?
Around 70%, all good films are very important to watch more than once.
Quote:
3) Do you get films knowing that they will suck but buy them anyway?
The answer to that question is a certified NO. I only rent the crap films, not buy them.

4) If you have them what do your partners reckon to you spending all your time and money on DVD`s?
I have no partner. :D

Am afraid to say that this country is going to be full of budding young Hitler`s in the future.Hearing the views of a teacher are not going to make that much of a difference IMHO. I blame the parents! It`s being bred into some youngsters at home, in the family, where Mam`s & Dad`s moan about lack of jobs due to "the bloody foreigners" who come here to work. The one`s who are milking this country dry.The education system is at full stretch with the influx of new pupils, the health service can`t cope with the increased number of people wanting beds. These are the people who have paid NOTHING into the system, yet thet get priority housing, DSS benefits & hospital treatment.
This is why you are getting more people standing as BNP candidates, and actually winning in some instances a seat on the local council.
.... MY opinion is that President Tony has made the UK a ticking time bomb with some of his euro policies and his idea`s on immigration. Like a ballon, it will only fill up so much before it bursts. I just hope am not around if or when it goes off !!
I couldn`t agree more. This is possibly the most accurate comment I`ve seen in this volatile discussion.

RE: Jackie Brown
I completely disagree with you guys. I think many people were let-down when seeing JACKIE BROWN because it was not another PULP FICTION. It`s not a hip, non-linear morality play, doesn`t contain any big speeches on popular culture, and doesn`t have major shootouts. JACKIE BROWN is all about simple pleasures, telling us a simple story motivated entirely by characters. It`s not a retread of either of his films, yet still remains amazing in its own right.
I don`t why you`re complaining about the running time - its only one minute longer than that of PULP FICTION, and nobody whined about that. On the first viewing it does seem to go on forever, but thats because Tarantino directs this leisurely and we just chill with the characters. He directs this like a grown-up blaxploitation film, starting off with a typical blaxploitation opening, with Pam Grier looking all cool, then shows her just going to work. This kind of maturity is what the film is all about and makes it my personal favourite Tarantino.

RE: Hard Boiled... The Killer... overrated???
Quote:
But Woo`s best film is Bullet in the Head. By a long way...
I agree chewie. BULLET IN THE HEAD is the closest thing to an epic that John Woo has ever done. Its a brutal and fatalistic film, dripping with pathos as the dreams and loyalties between the three friends is slowly destroyed by the events around them. Kind of like THE DEER HUNTER.

RE: Hard Boiled... The Killer... overrated???
I completely disagree. Having been fed a steady diet of Asian action cinema for most of my life, I have always seen these two films as pioneer`s for the Heroic Bloodshed genre. Let me explain why.
HARD BOILED was John Woo`s farewell gift to Hong Kong before moving to the sunny shores of Hollywood. It boasts some of the most heart-stopping footage of ultraviolent gunplay from the director and excellent production values. However, at the core of this action masterpiece is essentially a buddy-cop movie. It lacks the emotional resonance of THE KILLER or A BETTER TOMORROW, but is still one of my favorites. All of Woo`s narrative tools are found here, such as the illustration of the identical thought processes between Tony and Tequila, and many more (doves, symbolism) which I won`t go into detail now.
THE KILLER is hands-down a superb piece of cinema. Yes, there's an overly sentimental streak running throughout much of THE KILLER (as there is throughout all of Woo's hero films), and while it's a bit much at times, it's nice to see an emotion outside of the normal action film standards (generally anger, revenge, and righteous indignation). In essence, THE KILLER is really little more than a Hong Kong spaghetti western/updated samurai film. It's a movie that deals with issues of honor and moral codes in a changing world in order to bring together two characters who appear to be completely different on the surface. Yet, like almost all of Woo's films, there are no black and whites here—only different shades of gray.
So, I find the comment Quote:
Watching guys shoot back and forth with two guns in a variety of different poses is only entertaining for so long., true in some respects but there is a lot more to be found in both of these movies. And in an age of the Tarantino`s and Rodriguez` I find it difficult to believe the comments posted here.

RE: McDonald`s CEO apparently dies of a heart attack
Quote:
I think it`s exactly the `mindless drone` mentality that helps make McDonald`s what it is. Companies like this wouldn`t spend multi-millions on advertising if they didn`t think it would get the people in their `restaurants` to gorge themselves on the so-called food they offer, and so I think it`s quite a reasonable assumption that the nation`s health would be a lot better without McDonald`s and other similar chains
That is a good comment, but I want to make a point here. You can`t in good sense blame the fast food industry for the health problems that people have. Why should an industry have to compensate for a society that is generally irresponsible? Perhaps people should make changes in their personal life; and I guarantee you if 50% of McDonald`s customers stopped eating there because it was unhealthy then that would change. The people in the US and UK who sue for stupid stuff like this are the crap product of a society that is for the most part ungrateful, lazy, and looking for an easy way out.

RE: MESSAGE TO ALL USERS FROM THE MODERATORS, PLEASE READ IN
Quote:
I`ve noticed on some little routine checks that some users here are posting pictures here via hotlinking, rather than using their own webspace to link instead. Rob did mention when the image facility was added that you upload to your own space, so this is just to re-iterate the fact.
It`s not that we want to become over beaurocratic here, it`s just if we let one person get away with it, then it gives free reign for everyone to do it, which isn`t fair for the great many users here who do it the proper way and use their own webspace. Also, it`d be pretty embarrasing for Rob if all of a sudden a dozen websites lynch him because users from here are pinching their bandwidth by hotlinking to their pics.
If you don`t have your own webspace, then PhotoBucket is brilliant and has more than enough storage for anyone. Plus it`s FREE to use, so there`s no excuse not to. Thanks for reading one and all, have a great weekend all of you.
I only just read the message and completely understand. I don`t normally link externally but I guess it was down to laziness. No need now, PhotoBucket is great.

RE: Traffic Wardens...
Here is part of a story from Mainichi Daily News last year.
Quote:
A paper bag containing 4 million yen was found on July 19 by two traffic wardens in a cardboard box placed near a first-floor staircase at Kokura Minami Police Station in Kitakyushu.
They immediately handed the cash over to the lost property office, located just a few meters away.
The wardens who found the money renounced their right to claim it saying there was something "creepy" about the money.
Just proves that not all wardens are bad, huh? Well, at least not in Japan.

RE: Just got Kill Bill from CDWOW and....
To clear up:
As far as I know there are only 2 releases available which have no b/w scenes and also contain 2 minutes of extra footage - the R2 Japanese release and R3 Thai release.
Both have optional English subtitles but whether either has burned in English subtitles for the Japanese Dialog parts is unknown. I doubt there will be burned in subs on the R2 Japanese release but some people have said the Thai release might have them. In any case, I`m going to buy the standard theatrical version to save trouble. I mean, are you going to put yourself through hell for a couple minutes extra that barely affect the original cut at all? Its really not worth it, and besides, when the SE is released you won`t have to worry.

I know you are entitled to an opinion, but I think you`re in the minority. Myself, like a lot of people, all agree that THE GODFATHER PART 1 and its sequel rank as one of the greatest films in the whole of cinema.

RE: What About Smokers
I`m a smoker. Although a very occasional, self-controlled one - I barely have any throughout one week and thats only during my time at college. When I get home its an entirely different environment so I dont think about it. I think the criticism towards smokers is too harsh sometimes, I mean at times its justified and other times its not. Its like alcoholism, it happens in society so you just have to deal with it.
