RE: Sound proofing in a flat.

Hi Kipster

I know that Richer sounds have spikes made by speaker firm Gale that do the job.

With referenc to the egg boxes they do act like "anachoic" (think I spelled that correctly)foam. The foam is shaped int triangular wedges that trap the sound waves in the valleys between the wedges so to not reflect sound back.

Egg boxes do much the same thing but are less efficient and do not look as cool stapled to your walls!!! :D

Forgot also to say to move your speakers out from the walls as that redues the bass loading, alternatively just buy your neighbours a bottle of wine and crank it up!

See ya

RE: Eltax AV-Speakers compatibility

Hi Sid 69

Quick check on the eltax web site reveals that the speakers will operate within a 4 to 8 ohm impedance (resistance) range. Most hi fi and av amps operate on 8 ohms so this should not give you any worries.

Next the web site shows that the amp has the following output
Max power 8 Ohm Music 5 x 60W
Max power 8 Ohm Music Sub 120W

A passive sub just means that their is no internal amplification on the sub. But the manufacturer indicates that the amp can drive a sub by virtue of the separtely quoted power output for the sub. So on the face of it you seem quite right.

However to be on the safe side visit www.eltax.com and sign up for my Eltax where you can ask the question direct to the manufacturer for peace of mind.

Good Luck

RE: Whats your opinions on this Hitachi 3 scart to 1 scart?

Hi Andy_R

Although I have never used one, the home cinema magazines do not seem to report any problems with scart boxes in general. You can alo buy scart switch boxes that come complete with remote control for mutiple scart sockets so you can swithc inputs from your amchair. Check out www.lektropacks.co.uk for some ideas / alternatives.

Layer Transition Problems on Marantz DV 4300

Hi All

After buying a marantz dv4300 and being generaly pleased with the performance the player now has sever difficulty in tracking discs after about 40 minutes of playing.
I have tried compressed air cleaners and lens cleaning discs but to no avail. Bascially the palyer will no longer play a movie all the way through.

It seems to have problems following a layer transition and plays the first 40 mins or so with no problems , then starts acting up

Any ideas?

RE: Cooling for Homesystem??

Hi Shaggy_A

You could consider cheking out Maplin Electronics as they have a range of cooling fans that may suit your needs. Some of them are for PC use and are shielded so as not to cause interfernce from the motor.

However I would try your equipment in the cabinet and run it with a cheap thermometer in the cabinet and check the temperature range against your equipments operating range before undertaking any modifications to your cabinet.

RE: Sound proofing in a flat.

Hi Kipster

I would say it depends if your speakers are on spikes or not. The spikes go a long way to isolating the cabinet from the floor boards.

If on the other hand your speakers sit directly on the floor you could try squash balls or invest in some sound deadening material obtainable from In car Hi Fi Shops. Usually this material is used in door panels or on rear parcel shelfs but it has proven sound deadening abilities.

Check out http://www.carhificentre.sagenet.co.uk/dynamat.htm for a write up on how this material is used in car hifi installations.

Only other trick you can do is to turn down the bass as the low frequencies carry more.

Good Luck
