RE: LG 44" dlp tv-£1499 at currys
I saw a LG DLP today at COMET and the biggest drawback was the HIGHLY reflective front surface - the Sagem was non-reflective - any comments
PS - do either of these have problems with NTSC DVD`s ??
RE: COMPACKS 101 DVD RECORDER CLOSES DISC TOO EARLY
It COULD be a media problem
As stated on another thread, I have had media problems
I find that the Compacks will `close` a session if it hits problems with the source input - e.g. a blip on a home recorded video - and I have had it `close` a session when trying to record at the 1hr or 2hr settings - then it works fine on the same input on the 3hr setting
It could be a combination of media, quality of recording selected, and complexity of the image - suggesting it cannot write to the DVD-R(W) fast enough and accurately enough in certain circumstances ???
RE: Compacks 101 Dvd Recorder
My first suggestion - only record ONE item at a time
The menu/index structure seems a bit unusual if you record multi-items and your DVD player may not be able to handle it
Hope this helps
RE: Compacks 101 Dvd Recorder
Is there anywhere I can check which DVD media is best suited to the Compacks 101
I am ONLY getting decent results with Packard Bell DVD+RW

RE: Compacks 101 Dvd Recorder
Hi Nick
I am fairly new to this - so this is only what I have found - not and expert guide !!
I now make my SINGLE recordings on the Compacks 101 on Packard Bell DVD+RW (seem to work fairly consistently)
I then read them on my PC (1ghtz, 512 MB mem) using DVD-Shrink 3.1 and go into re-author mode
Having selected the sections I want and made sure they will fit on a DVD I save them to hard disc in ISO format using DVD-Shrink back -up mode
I then write to DVD+R or DVD-R using Sonic RecordNow-DX from the ISO image file
These DVD play fine on the Compacks and my other DVD player
Are you SURE that your Apex will read the DVD media you are using - all players seem to be different in whether they read DVD DVD-R DVD+R DVD-RW DVD+RW and then it can STILL cause a problem using a particular DVD blank media that your player objects to
RE: Compacks 101 Dvd Recorder
Hi
Thanks for the advice CarlC - but as a new user to DVD decrypter and DVDFab - I cannot make this work for DVD with several recording on it - more info please ??
I followed some advice from elsewhere and have had GREAT RESULTS with DVD-Shrink on single recordings from the Compacks 101 - quick, good quality, and built in editor !!
If you record a two hour program from TV - you can extract it, cut out the ads and re-record it in about an hour !!

RE: Compacks 101 Dvd Recorder
Hi
It is a matter of trial and error I am afraid with which DVD media to use
I have some Packard Bell DVD+RW which work well and consistently - but other DVD+RW I have tried will not read on another player and sometimes not even on the Compacks 101
RE: Compacks 101 Dvd Recorder
Just tried the 111 for macrovision and 001 for Region 1 - both work fine
(but re-set when you turn off the DVD recorder)
Thanks Diogenes

RE: Compacks 101 Dvd Recorder
Hi Diogenes
MANY THANKS for all the info - I will give it a try
I would guess those output rates are pretty standard for HP SP EP etc ??
I can load the DVD produced by the 101 in my DVD-rewriter on my PC and COPY the DVD on Sonic RecordnowDX - but still cannot play it using WinDVD PowerDVD or extract the files for editing !!
Where the whole DVD has been written to (several recordings) and then some recordings deleted in the 101 - Sonic still sees 4gb !!

RE: Compacks 101 Dvd Recorder
Hi Sammy
I just connected the Video outputs of my VHS player to the AV1 or AV2 inputs on the Compacks 101
I used a standard video lead (three phonos yellow, red, white)
You could also connect the Scart output to the AV1 or AV2 inputs - you would need a Scart to phono lead

RE: Compacks 101 Dvd Recorder
OK - thanks for that
Now what about problem 1. i.e. my PC will not correctly read or play the DVD produced (have tried WinDVD and PowereDVD v4)
and Windows Explorer cannot see all the VOB files
I want to be able to edit the recorded files ??
RE: Compacks 101 Dvd Recorder
I just got one of these
seems to work OK on general TV recording
two little problems I have found - is this normal for DVD recorders ?? (my first attempt)
1. DVD`s will not play properly on my PC - only plays first VOB file (15 mins at normal speed) and explorer only shows 1 VOB file even when DVD is full - DVD pl;ays OK on Compacks recorder and another DVD player
2. Will not record from a "commercial" VHS tape - just refuses says it is `protected`
Are these problems normal for all DVD players
I wanted to record all my old home VHS tapes AND THEN be able to edit them on my PC - can`t do it
