RE: Firmware on LiteOn LVW 5005

I forgot to mention that the newer 5005 has a serial number that starts with the numeral "6" and the older one has a serial number that starts with the numeral "2". These are the numbers printed on the box and at the back end of the units. I also didn`t mention when the numbers listed on the setup screens were entered into the Liteon website to get the latest firmware for these units, two different firmwares versions were available to download, LNFA1091 for the newer one and LNFA1076 for the older one.

RE: Firmware on LiteOn LVW 5005

Don`t know if this information will help or not but here goes.

My experience is with the USA versions of the Liteon 5005 and 5001. I have two 5005 units and they are very different as far as the firmware goes and with which type firmware they can be loaded with. The older version was manufactered in June 2004 and it came with LNFA1063. I installed the hack version of the same firmware and everything worked as expected, 3 hour mode, etc. However, the newer version of the 5005 with a manufacture date of Oct 2004 came with LNFA1085 (as I recall). I immediately updated it to the current version (LNFA1091) at Liteon`s website without any trouble. Next I tried to update it again to a hacked version of the same firmware. The newer 5005 will not take the hacked version, nor will it let me try to install the same updated version (LNFA1091) again. It simply ejects the CD without any comments on screen or DVD display. It appears that once installed you cannot go backwards or even back to the same firmware version.

My 5001 has the hacked version of LNEA1163 firmware installed and it works well. I also have the newest version of LNEA1176 from Liteon for the 5001 and LNFA1076 for the 5005 already hacked by me but I am waiting to install them when the next Liteon update comes out. I suspect that I might not be able to go back to an older version. I certainly can`t go backwards with the newer 5005 because I tried.

Hope this helps.
