RE: Philips BDP 3000
I`m the Homer Simpson of this forum - what is the "home" key ?
I`ve tried just about every key on the supplied remote control - no joy.
Help me out please somebody !!!
RE: Multiregion hack code for MICO 311
Thanks to metradios`s advice, I tried an R1 DVD on my R311i........ and it played fine.
There is nothing on the disc to say what region it is - however, it is a genuine USA product (2003 baseball World Series) so it is bonafide R1.
It played in BOTH the "United Kingdom" AND the "Other" setting options, no problem.
I recently bought "The Alamo" off Ebay - came from Hong Kong......played OK on my previous DVD player which I had hacked to region free....but the R311i wants nothing to do with it, in either UK or Other setting !!!
I assumed it was an R1 disc......is it a pirate ? Is there an R9 region.......China ?
RE: Multiregion hack code for MICO 311
Metradio,
PS - Can I record in NTSC format to send to a friend in the USA ?
RE: Multiregion hack code for MICO 311
Metradio,
Maplins have just opened a branch in Falkirk, not too far, I`ll visit when normal service resumes after the New Year.
All the best for 2005 and thanks for the help.
RE: Multiregion hack code for MICO 311
Metradio,
You`ve been a big help.
Incidentally, I was in TESCO yesterday and saw gold plated SCART leads selling for just under £3 each.
Worth buying to replace the normal SCART cables I`ve bought over the years in places like Comet etc. ?
BTW - there is another member on a separate thread about connection problems with a MICO R311.
Are you still in your "Good Samaritan" mode to help another newbie !!!
RE: MiCO Espejo R311
I recently obtained an R311i and a kind gentleman on this forum talked me through the connection scenarios etc.
I`ll post a `heads up` message to that thread and perhaps he`ll be able to help here ?
RE: Multiregion hack code for MICO 311
Metradio,
IOU an apology.
Talk about a doubting Thomas.
The disc I tried was what I thought was a region 1 disc, I bought off Ebay - "The Alamo" - recent 2003 production.
I`ve since tried a commercially purchased region 1 disc originating in the USA - played straight away.
Clearly the R311i is multiregion.
"The Alamo" came from Hong Kong and was Chinese - which I assumed was also region 1. I`m now wondering if it was a pirate ? The artwork is very professional and the DVD is a picture disc of the film poster.
It played no problem in my other region free DVD player - so I assumed it was bonafide commercial product.
The learning process continues - thanks again.
RE: Multiregion hack code for MICO 311
Metradio,
I`ve managed a quick check - my setup was`nt far from your recommended expert configuration.
Currently on a trial recording from the digibox, following the above help ref. monitoring channels etc.
Does this mean I only need the ONE scart lead input to the TV, as I suspect must be the case ?
Thanks again - it is all now beginning to make sense.
BTW - I tried a region 1 disc last night - the R311i tried hard but would not oblige, beyond a few seconds of the FBI warning about copyright etc. - then it gave up.
Is there a hack, or should I just persevere ?

RE: Multiregion hack code for MICO 311
Metradio
Super.
We are having relations visit, so I won`t get a chance to do much until later.
Thanks again.
RE: Multiregion hack code for MICO 311
Metradio
I`m obliged again. I follow the general logic of your advice above.
However - the freeview box (Bush) has two SCART connections at the rear.
One (blue) is marked VCR - the other (black) is marked TV.
I realise the colours are irrelevant - but which of these two should be connected to the upper SCART on the R311 ? Does it make any difference ? Do I need to connect both ?
The Sony TV has 3 SCART inputs at the rear. Previously these were connected to
a) DVD player b) Freeview box c) VCR
Now, of course the DVD player and VCR are redundant.
Should the R311...... AND...... the freeview box each have a separate SCART lead into the back of the TV ?
Last night, before reading your latest help I recorded off the TV - when I tried to record via the freeview the R311 still recorded the BBC 1 (analogue ?) signal.
Obviously I`m going to have to study the manual again !!!
As `er indoors says - when all else fails, read the instructions !!!
Thanks again.
RE: Multiregion hack code for MICO 311
Thanks metradio.
How should I connect the 311 to their TV and freeview digibox ?
Should the external antennae downlead go to the digibox first, then that connected to the 311 via a SCART ?
If so, which SCART ?
Which SCART should go from the 311 to the TV ?
Sorry to be so dumb - I`m just not sure which is which.
Multiregion hack code for MICO 311
I bought my parents the Mico 311 for Christmas - anybody have the region free hack code please ?
Is the same for the 311i variant ?
RE: MICO Espejo R311. DVD Recorder. I have one. First thoughts.
Ref. the memeber asking if any 311i models in Glasgow area - I had no luck across the whole of central Scotland.
However, after much `phoning around..... Dundee branch of Sainsbury`s had 2 left, so my son travelled up from Stirling area.
Now they have just 1 left !!! It might still be available ?
Tel. 01382-736435, their customer services were very helpful and agreed to hold the machine for 24 hours for collection.
Worth the journey if you need the I Link connection.

RE: Pioneer DVR 320
Any specific model of Toshiba to meet the specs I mentioned ?
RE: Pioneer DVR 320
Thanks again.
How`s about recommending another machine for me - other than Pioneer, just to give me something to work on til the stores re-open after Christmas.
I want -R/-RW recording format, firewire front connection and RGB with 2 SCART sockets.
The Sony GX700 looks good...however I might be missing other suitably speced kit ?
I appreciate your advice.
RE: Pioneer DVR 320
Thanks
I saw a review today in "What Hi Fi" - said it was overpriced and not the best of the bunch it reviewed. So, that`s cooled my jets a bit !!!
The Panasonic E55 and Sony RGX 300 both got 5 stars. After checking specs, I would need the next model up in these, (E65 or RGX 700) to have Firewire.
The Panasonic is attractive - the one question mark is.........does the lack of recording ability to DVD-RW format cause limitations ?
Any advice/guidance gratefully accepted.
Pioneer DVR 320
Hi folks - I`m a novice here.
I`m thinking of a DVD recorder and have spent hours looking around the internet and browsing around stores.
Has anybody got this machine - and is it a good buy ?
Santa is bringing me a digital camcorder so I want a piece of kit with an IEEE 1394 connection.
