GREAT FILMS YOU MAY NOT KNOW... SPREAD THE WORD!!!!!!!

Just finished watching HOUSE on DVD. No not the eighties horror but a British film set in Wales about BINGO... YES BINGO! It stars some great actors including Kelly McDonald (from Trainspotting) who in my opinion should be up there with the great British actors like Kate Winslet, (more on her later) Helana Bonham Carter, Samantha Morton and Emily Watson. It`s a great feel good movie that is put accross very stylish by it`s young first time feature director Julian Kemp (a name to remember for the future) The DVD also has some interesting extras (A short film by the Director called SUCKERS which stars Neil Stuke ( the very funny TV comedy, Game On) a directors commentary and about 6 Teaser Trailers to boot. Not many but very consistant ! If you pass this on the shelf at BlockBuster (better yet just buy it!) then you are an idiot. British movies need more of your attension, this film was completely snubbed in advertising and really is an undiscovered JEM ! SEE IT NOW.

The other film I have watched numerous times lately is the Excelent Wes Anderson movie, BOTTLE ROCKET. This movie has never been given a UK release (Don`t ask me why!) and is only available from the US on region 1. You may have heard of this director from his follow up movie, RUSHMORE another great movie, which was released here and stars Jason Schwartzman, Bill Murray and Olivia Williams. But Bottle Rocket was where it started. It`s a movie that is funny, warm and touching and very original... if you like the Coen Brothers I am sure that you would love Bottle Rocket and Rushmore. I think that you can buy Bottle Rocket from PLAY 247. You mush check it out, GREAT !

Others that deserved more on release....

Dazed and Confused (IF YOU HAVEN`T SEEN IT, WHY NOT!) R1
In the Company of Men (A very disturbingly BLACK COMEDY!) R1
Swingers (A now classic dating film for the 20`s generation... BUY IT NOW) R1 & 2
Go. (Great fun) R1 & 2
The Straight Story (an amazing David Lynch movie that really should not be missed) R1 & 2
Erasurehead (Not more can be said about this one, FREAKY WEIRD!) R2 ONLY
Holy Smoke (Kate Winslet at her best, pop Harvey Keitel in there too and Jane Campion as the director and you have one hell of a rollercoaster sexual englightening, electric movie.... A MUST SEE!!!!)

Well these are some of my all top movies (not all but some) and if you haven`t heard of one of these RENT IT and see what you have been missing.

Happy Viewing

If you have seen any of these and want to tell everyone what you think, please do. Please add your own list as well !

RE: Cannibal Holocaust, is it as hard to watch as everyone seems to say?

The disk is region 2, is the totally uncut version (Still not available on video or DVD in the States) and you can buy it from this company http://www.dc-dvd.co.uk
Don`t ask me how they can get around the BBFC censorship laws but since I have found this site they offer all uncut versions of such classics as, I Spit on Your Grave, Cannibal Ferox, The New York Ripper, Maniac to name just a few. (Checkout the sub heading ` Banned in the UK`.
The company have all these DVD`s already here in Britain, so there is no worry of your movie being held by customs officers. They are a little more expensive than some DVD sites but thats the price you pay. Check them out to see if there is a film you`ve been trying to import for ages!

Cannibal Holocaust, is it as hard to watch as everyone seems to say?

As soon as I saw this title was available through DC-DVD I had to order it. It is due to come through my letter box very soon and I am a little sceptical on some of the views that I have heard people say about this movie, the turtle scene is always mentioned!!!! Now I really hate seeing animals being abused (but don`t care so much about women or men being scalped or screwered, say`s a lot about human nature doesn`t it!) What I am affraid of is getting the feeling that those animal scene`s were just to make the film infamous and controversial and the use of these scene`s are just plainly unjustified, simply to repulse the viewer and have no other reason of being in the movie.
I shall just wait and see, but I would like to get other peoples views on this movie if you have seen it... kind of a good build up of my actual viewing!
I have been a long fan of the Gore genre (ever since my Dad back in 1983, hired out the Evil Dead for me because the guy behind the desk said it was a comedy! I was 10 years old at the time, I loved it but my aunt who came in to see what I was watching right at the Ankle and Pencil scene (this was before it was classed as a video nasty and taken of the shelfs) was a little horrified to say the least! Ever since then I have been a fan of Horror. My other horror films on DVD include, Don`t Torture a Duckling (Great creepy movie) The New York Ripper (A suprisingly atmospheric film) and the film that started it all, Evil Dead (+2 and 3). But never before have I anticipated a movie such as C H, I look forward to finding out for myself if it is, what it is hyped to be!
