one more quick query on this one. I bought one today - all looks good so far, but I want to check something out.

The finalised discs don`t play on my 5 year old LG DVD player but thats not unusual as it doesn`t play alot of DVDRs that I get given. I`ve played it on my flatmates PS2 and it seems to play fine, but the menu for the disc looks somewhat unfinalised. Is this just the way it is? It has the mico logo in the background and three thumbnails for one film. The main one for the film, a blank one, and another one giving details about the dvd. Just wanna check this is normal before I get settled into having the DVD recorder around!

Hi folks

Does anyone know if the discs recorded on this machine play ok in other machines? It seems to be a recurring theme with budget makes that they don`t, but would like some advice on the query with this one and it`s reliability if poss. Thanks

Got a new machine. And it`s exactly the same as the old one. I am negotiating a refund as I can`t be bothered with the hastle. It finalises but won`t play on other machines which make the whole thing a bit pointless. I`m going back to VCR

sadly it`s died again tonight. And, if it does finalise, it now won`t play in other machines - and I`ve not had a problem with that before either. So, I`m assuming it`s not finalising properly - although the discs recorded up until yesterday play fine! Ho hum! back to dixons tomorrow!

The Matsui also apepars to be a little fussy with discs - I`ve had no problems with Dixons own make, but it doesn`t seem to like the others very much. And the machine had it`s first funny turn this week. It recorded for two hours and then said it had an empty disc! This happened twice and I packicked. However after unplugging the machine and restarting it again, it seems to be fine again. Fingers crossed!

As far as I know the recordings made on it are still region 2. It`s also worth mentioning that region 1 does play on the DVD player but sometimes can be a little "jumpy". It`s fine on some DVDs and not on others - it`s not a problem for me personally as I can view them through my other machine, but it is one of the few things I have had problems with.

Still no problems here - all seems fine. The only problem I`ve had is on one disc a couple of weeks ago where it stalled/crashed while changing the thumbnail picture and somehow I lost what was on the disc. But not had any problems before or since.

No, there is no videoplus feature. It has to be said that it is a very basic machine - although timer recordings is, of course, possible.

have had it a couple of months now and still no problems with it. I read elsewhere that there was a problem with the clock on this machine, but I`ve had no such problems.

I`m on my first recorder from a payment point of view as I took the first one back. And I won`t be back in 6 monhts as it will still be under guarantee. And, in a years time, when the guarantee runs out the so-called better makes will be considerably cheaper anyway.

However, to be honest, I`m not sure that you had a point. As far as I am aware this is a place to discuss problems etc, and not to make comments about something which has nothing to do with the thread in the first place. You seem to forget that everyone has their own criteria for which recorder they buy - and for me the criteria was to find the best budget recorder that i could. I think I have succeeded there.

As the more expensive players have extras that I`m not needing, I can see nothing wrong with that. I don`t intend to pay an extra 100 pounds for something which suits me better than one for £99. And if I did, that was my business and not yours. And, finally, if you weren`t interested in the cheaper recorders, why did you view this thread in the first place?

If I could afford a better recorder I would have got one. Should I have felt the need. However, my Matsui is just fine for me. Works fine, is reliable and saved me pennies. And what`s more it doesn`t make me turn my nose up at other people who can`t get or don`t want the named brand and therefore make me sound like a jumped up idiot.

There, I feel much better now. Someone always has to come along and spoil things, don`t they!

I also have had no problems - and have had it a month or so now. The only little niggle is some little white "teeth" at the top left of the picture sometimes - but that may be something to do with how it`s set up - not too good at these things!

Is this a possible macro answer for Matsui DVDR100??

I don`t know if this helps or not, but I`ve noticed that since I`ve used the region hack on this machine I can record from about 2 thirds of DVDs whereas I couldn`t before. Only found out by accident as I was trying out different scart leads following the Pin 19 ghosting problem.

Universal, Miramax, 20th Century Fox and some older Columbia DVDs don`t appear to work. But have tried a newer Columbia DVD (issued in 2003) as well as those by MGM, Warner Bros, Artificial Eye, Prism(!) and have had no trouble with them. I can`t believe that only three companies use copy protection? It doesn`t work with VHS though!

Any comments greatly received! I`m guessing if this is a semi-macrovision hack as well a multiregion one, that people haven`t noticed it as they already have the necessary equipment to by-pass the macro anyway? Dunno, but would like to find out.

Cheers for that. It`s looking good now. Got seemingly hundreds of leads floating round the house since I started this DVD recordings stuff! :) Also, I notice that scart plugs are notorious for getting their pins bent, broken off etc - but try and break one on purpose and you struggle for ages! ;o)

Ghosting, BBC2, Macrovision and the Matsui DVDR100. Can anyone help?

Hi all

I bought the Matsui DVDR100 yesterday (after taking back the Liteon machine I bought two weeks ago due to the jerky picture that others have suffered from). It seems to be a good little machine and is certainly a better picture quality than the previous machine and relatively easy to use. However, I have a couple of problems!

I have a de-macro cable which I bought for the Liteon but that doesn`t work very successfully with this machine. It works on videos and some DVDs but not those from Universal or 20th Century Fox, which seems a bit bizarre! Any ideas?

Also, my VCR appears to have been taken over by aliens from BBC2! I`ve been noticing some ghosting on the video channel from time to time depending on the weather over the last few months. But yesterday, when trying to record from VCR it suddenly got taken over by a full-fledged (if bad quality) BBC2! I tried disconnecting all the aerials etc, thinking that there might be a problem with signals from there, but no joy. Can a VCR act as it`s own aerial in this way? And is there a way to overcome this (and the ghosting). I did try deleting all the preset channels on my video player but this didn`t help either!

Any help greatly appreciated.

The Matsui DVDR100

Two weeks ago I bought the Liteon LVW5002 DVD recorder and have had problems with the jerky picture that I know others appear to have had. I have rung up Dixons and they said it`s fine to take it back. But what to get instead? I can`t afford anything more, and they have the MATSUI DVDR100 for sale at £99! I have searched the web and not seen anything really against it (except for a problem with the clock, which I can cope with).

Has anybody out there got one? Is it reliable? Picture quality good? etc

Any comments before I take my LITEON back tomorrow (Thursday) would be much appreciated!
