Found this on a UK web site, ActonElectronics.com. Two completely different hacks, I haven`t tested them but here they are for your information:

If the above hack does not work then please use the one below. It is dependant on whatever version of the Firmware is on the player. The latest version will work with the following:
1. Press Setup
2. Press Rec
3. Press <8>-<1>-<0>-<5>
4. Press Rec
5. Select the region code with the number keys or the navigation keys. 0 for Multiregion.
6. Press Setup to return from the setup menu

the DVR1600MU is the one the Play Divx i have my and is Manufactured: May 2005 is so cool is much better than the DVR1600ZU i buy my in best buy in usa N.J. 129.99 + Tax like 140 $ and here is the Region Free code i think this dont work on the DVR1600ZU Thanks to DJ for this hack have a Region Free day bye.

Region code hack
found a hidden menu on the "Setup" menu on DVDR04
you must do the following to open it.
Enter "Setup" menu on the screen.
Scroll down and highlight "Exit".
While "Exit" is highlighted enter 2,9,6, and 0 and press "Enter".
A hidden menu pops up and you can select your region.
