RE: SWISSTEC DVR-1028

Hi, it`s manufactured by Sogon, see
http://www.sobon.cn/eng/det_prod.asp?id=86&lang=engnum
and imported by Swisstec who have the little silver plastic badge added and the firmware (title screen) customised.

RE: Region Hack required for Swisstec 1028

"Does your 1028 change channels in the middle of a recording against your will "

No it doesn`t seem to be ABLE to change channel/source whilst recording or in record:pause.
However if you mean does the recorded programme, when played back, appear to change channel, then YES it can do.

On my swisstec DVR-1028 , this occurs when recording on a previously used (and erased) +RW disc.

As the recorder works at 4x speed (I believe), it is idle 3/4 of the time whilst buffering video data. So it records for a few seconds, then waits.
Sometimes it fails to actually write to the disc when it should (may be a calibration or tracking problem) so during playback it would show a few seconds of new recording than a few seconds of previous(ly erased) recording.

IF THIS IS A COMMON OCCURENCE it points to a bad batch of loaders and all machines should be returned under guarantee. Anyone else experiencing this please join and post so the extent of the problem can be measured!

RE: Swisstec DVR1028 - Formatting Blank Discs

Hi I have the swisstec too.
I have found that it intermittently fails to record on +RW although on +R it seems fine.
I have found TDK+RW discs (recommended by user on Digital Spy) to be slightly more reliable than the variety of other brands tried.
According to the manufacture SOGON.CN website, loader (DVDRW drive) used is Philips.
You are not doing anything wrong, if you see red dot in blue square, top left corner over picture whilst recording, and leave alone whilst Post Processing takes place, programme should be on disc, ready to play in most machines.

Without removing disc after recording, try playing it then.
(i) If it tells you it`s blank you need either try different brand disc or else return recorder as faulty.
(ii) If you see title screen with correct index thumbnail, recording has been successful.
(iii) If thumbnail is corrupted, recording has taken place but much of the programme may be unwatchable. This requires one of the actions in (i).

Best of luck.
