Nobody? There must be some recommendations out there.
DVDR880 on it`s way out. What replacement?
My six year old Philips DVDR880, which had a laser replacement in year one, seems to be dying. Getting Empty Disc Errors on some types of DVD media.
What is around now that would make a good value for money region free replacement?
TIA

RE: Philips DVDR 880 Error code
Thanks for the reply Nostalgiadvd,
It must have been a problem with the dvd disk. I made a backup of it using DVD Shrink and then the resulting newly burnt disk played on the DVDR 880 ok.

Progress report
I tried a dvd that came up as wrong region.
Applied the hack and now it plays. :D
So it looks like SUCCESS!!!!!! :D
Excellent. I would like to thank everyone for their help. :D
Many thanks.
All the best,
Kevin (KBL) :D :D
(One final question. If the DVD player is left unplugged for a while, IE when we go on holiday, will the hack need doing again after powering back up?)

RE: hack for phillips dvd recorder880
Hi Spaced-Man,
I will be borrowing a one4all URC-7541 remote in a couple of weeks, so I can try the region fix.
Do you know what the code is to program it with the Philips DVD code?
Regards,
KBL
RE: DVDR880 remote
Hi MattC,
Did you ever discover if any other all-in-one/universal remotes worked?
I thought it had to be a specific type.

RE: hack for phillips dvd recorder880
Space-man,
Which one worked for you? The first one?
I have tried those with no luck. May be I need to try again.
Was thinking of trying the all4one fix using my laptop IR port. Tried the link with the file, but haven`t had any luck so far.

RE: hack for phillips dvd recorder880
Could you let me know the link please.
Still can`t find a permanent region free fix and I don`t want to get much closer to the dreaded 25 maximum.

Many thanks.
RE: Need a couple of hacks please.
Hi Hackeroonie,
Do you know where I can get all the info and files needed for a philips dvdr880 hack using a laptop IR port and windows 2000.
edit: I have been searching the net, but have only come up with Palm PDA suggestions.
Thanks.

RE: Hi. Could someone please help regarding region hack.
Is there any region free hack? I have just put a commercial DVD in and it says wrong region.
Will I have to keep changing the regions manually?
Will it lock after 25 changes?
Any help gratefully appreciated.
Edit: Could someone send me details on the Laptop IR port hack please... lbk[at]ei.loi

RE: Hi. Could someone please help regarding region hack.
Update 2:
Tried the 1a step again using the remote set to player and 121212 005 001 and it worked! :)
Also tried another dvd that had played before the change and it worked also?????
Ah well... so far so good. May come across another problem soon, but for now things seem ok.

RE: Hi. Could someone please help regarding region hack.
Update:
Got the philips all in one remote working.
Then tried step 1a HERE but no luck.
I`m not a nerd, so if some could explain the step 1b to me (if it`s possible with philips all in one remote).
Also noticed the infra red solution. I have an infra red laptop, where could I find details how to use this please.

Hi. Could someone please help regarding region free code.
I was just told about this site. I have a Philips DVDR880 which has played DVDS no problem for the last three years. I just put in a DVD which gives me the error "Disc not playable on the player, different region". I have checked the list for the hack and found that it says I shouldn`t use the DVD remote but an all-in-one remote.
I have an all in one remote. It`s the Philips allin one for a matchline TV and the DVD player is also matchline. I have never used the remote for the DVD player, only used the DVD remote.
Before I can do anything with regard to a hack, how do I get the all in one remote to operate the DVD please?
Then what should I do next.
Hope someone can help.
Thanks,
Kevin
