RE: 2001: A Space Odyssey (Special Edition) with Limited Edition Art Cards £9.98 at Amazon
This saga just gets sillier, as I`ve received this Email today:-
`Dear Amazon.co.uk Customer,
When you ordered the following title 2001: A Space Odyssey (2 Disc Special Edition) [1968] our offer included a pack of Limited Edition Art Cards (Exclusive to Amazon.co.uk).
We are sorry that, due to an unforseeable shortage in supply, there has been a delay in sending you the promised Amazon.co.uk Art Cards.
We are now in the process of sending any outstanding Art Card packs to Amazon.co.uk customers, so you should receive your pack shortly. Thank you for your patience.
Again, we apologise for any inconvenience this delay might have caused you.`
So, 4 days after receiving 2 packs of cards unexpectedly, they tell me I should receive a(nother ?) pack shortly !?!

Well - completely out of the blue - an envelope arrived today from Amazon.co.uk, with a compliments slip (but no explanation written on it) and with the Art Cards enclosed !
As it turns out, they`re not that spectacular - I assumed they`d be various `2001` images, but they`re just `front cover` artwork for several Stanley Kubrick films - But at least Amazon eventually supplied what I`d ordered !
Well ... not quite ... as there were TWO packs of cards enclosed !!

2001: A Space Odyssey (Special Edition) with Limited Edition Art Cards £9.98 at Amazon
Digitally re-mastered, and with documentories and featurettes on the second DVD, looks to be a bargain at £9.98 from Amazon.co.uk (ASIN: B000JJS982) !!
However, I`ve just received this DVD from Amazon, but the Art Cards were not included !
The wrapper of the DVD was still sealed, so it looks like a production problem.
On querying this with Amazon, they suggested that I return the DVD and they would then send me another copy.
When I asked what guarantee they could give that the replacement copy would actually have the Art Cards, they suggested that I return the DVD for a full refund !
So, has anyone else bought this DVD from Amazon.co.uk ?
Were the Art Cards included ?
PS Sorry for the crosspost in the DVDs & Films Forum - Mods, could you delete that one, please ?

RE: Scart freeview connector £24.99 + delivery at Ebuyer
On the Ebuyer web page, if you press the `more images` tab, the 5th image shows the plug-in IR sensor, which plugs into the socket labelled `IR` on the 2nd image, with a fairly long lead, so it can be stuck on the front of the TV.
In fact the sensor looks identical to the one that came with my PCI TV card !
RE: Superman & Superman II Special Editions £6.98 each!
You`re right, again, straightjacket - but my Order Status still shows the items as £6.89 each !
I shall wait a couple of days after the 5th March (the original pre-order date for both discs) to see if the status changes (or the discs arrive !), before querying what`s happening with Sendit.com.
A few days ago, I read their full Terms and Conditions (and made a copy, as they suggest !).
Unfortunately, this includes the following
`Contract for the Supply of Goods
The display of goods on the Sendit.com site amounts to an invitation to treat only and is not an offer to sell goods at any price indicated. No contract for the supply of goods will be deemed to exist between you and sendit.com unless, and until, an email is sent by sendit.com to you confirming that your order has been shipped. You must check that the details of your confirmation email are correct as soon as possible and you should print out and keep a copy for your records. This confirmation e-mail amounts to an acceptance by sendit.com (or 3rd party supplier that is engaged on your behalf by sendit.com) of your offer to buy goods from sendit.com and this acceptance is effective regardless of whether or not you receive the e-mail.
Sendit.com are free to withdraw from a prospective contract at any time prior to acceptance. This also applies in the case of any error or inaccuracy in respect of the goods, any description applied to the goods, the availability of the goods or the order itself.`
So, even though I`ve received various Emails from Sendit.com confirming the status of the individual items on my orders, until the items are actually shipped, Sendit.com can cancel the order at any time, for any reason they see fit.
However, I`m fairly certain I`d have a good case to pursue the matter further (should they not supply the items), as I have queried the Warner Home Video Cat.No. for both items with Sendit.com, to ensure that what I receive will be what is being advertised.
I received the response
`The two items you have ordered are indeed D075341 and DY10108 so it is these
that will be ordered into stock and shipped to you on release.`
I think that`s watertight !
I`ll post when something happens !
RE: Superman & Superman II Special Editions £6.98 each!
You`re quite right, straightjacket !
Stranger still, the re-ordered item on my order status now shows `Temporarily out of Stock: Reordered`
If that means that all the copies of Superman 2 which were Pre-ordered had already been allocated to buyers (such as myself, before I re-ordered), then I might just have shot myself in the foot, and have to wait for the next batch !!
RE: Superman & Superman II Special Editions £6.98 each!
My latest weekly Order Status Update said the same thing, straightjacket.
But, if you go to the Superman 2 page
http://www.sendit.com/video/item/7001000128486
It now says
`Availability: Usually Despatched within 72 hours
Released: 20th Nov 2006`
which I take to mean that despatch should be imminent !!
So, just to make the point, I`ve re-ordered the Superman 2 set again, then cancelled the item on my original order.
The new item is now showing as `In progress`, so I`ll post what happens !
RE: Superman & Superman II Special Editions £6.98 each!
I`ve had an Email from Sendit.com, in response to my query.
For the 2 Superman boxed sets in question, I first did a Google search on the 2 Warner Home Video Catalogue Numbers (D075341 and DY10108 ), as quoted on the 2 Sendit.com pages.
All the results (from sites as diverse as HMV and Tesco) were for the 4-disc and 3-disc versions respectively, with the artwork exactly as on the 2 Sendit.com pages.
(Ideally, I would have cross-checked the Catalogue Numbers with the Warner Home Video site, but their search facility doesn`t seem to accept anything other than text !)
The response I`ve had back from Sendit.com states
`The two items you have ordered are indeed D075341 and DY10108 so it is these
that will be ordered into stock and shipped to you on release.`
The final proof will be what I actually receive, of course !

RE: Superman & Superman II Special Editions £6.98 each!
Batavia & porl,
The Play.com links you`ve posted actually state
`availability: Due for release on 19/02/2007`,
which is mid-February, NOT early March !
Also, with the RRP on the Play.com discs being only £7.99, whereas the Sendit.com discs are £22.99 and £20.99, respectively, I don`t see how they can be the same discs !
So, as there seems to be MUCH confusion about this, I`ll be Emailing Sendit.com later today, for confirmation of what I`ll actually receive.
I`ll post their response.
RE: Superman & Superman II Special Editions £6.98 each!
Batavia,
`Cancelled mine as it looks as if Superman is a 2 or 3 disc version and Superman 2 is definitely a 2 disc version.`
I reached the same conclusion as Rossington, i.e. the images clearly read `Four Disc Special Edition` for Superman The Movie, and `Three Disc Special Edition` for Superman II.
Also, the text states `... This fantastic new 3 disc Special Edition of Superman 2 ...`
I`m curious as to how you`ve reached your conclusions !
straightjacket,
When I looked today, both pages stated
`Availability: PREORDER
Released: 5th Mar 2007`,
which it showed as, immediately, in my basket, when I ordered them - so I don`t know how it showed as "dispatched within 3 days" for yourself !
However, just to cover the possibility that a different version may arrive, I`ve saved both web pages, as proof of what I`ve ordered, and expect to receive !
RE: ALDI Colour PIR Surveillance Camera - Poor Quality Control ? - Follow-up
Dodge,
I`d spotted those earlier, but they look very `plasticcy` (the ALDI camera had a metal case and fixing bracket) and they`re only monochrome (not colour), nor do they have the PIR functionality.
But for what they are, that`s now a bargain price !
That doesn`t stop them from being offered on sale on Ebay, though, with `Buy it Now` prices ranging from £14.99 + £3.99 P&P, up to an OUTRAGEOUS £26.00 + £6.50 P&P !!
I very much doubt that these sellers bought the item before it was reduced in price and are selling what are described as `Brand New` items at a loss, so they`re basically just trying to take advantage of innocent buyers.
Thank goodness for sites like this !
ALDI Colour PIR Surveillance Camera - Poor Quality Control ? - Follow-up
You`re quite right, numskull, I wasn`t expecting the highest quality of build or performance (although it does state `high resolution` on the box, but without defining exactly what that means), but I WAS expecting that the units would both work at least as well as each other !
However, I`ve just been to Leeds ALDI, to find all the cameras now sold, and none of the nearby stores have any left, so I can`t exchange them.
I can`t quibble at all at the manager`s helpful and apologetic attitude - nor the full refund !
Anyone have any suggestions for good value (I didn`t say `cheap`, although that`s what I mean !) CCTV cameras with similar facilities ?
ALDI Colour PIR Surveillance Camera - Poor Quality Control ?
`Now from the safety of your own home, keep an eye on your house, garage, car and callers with this heavy-duty, high-resolution camera. It simply connects to your TV and transmits live pictures and sound.
* Remote passive infrared movement sensor
* Built-in microphone
* 2 way intercom and buzzer control box
* CCD camera lens
* Night vision LEDs
* SCART connector
* 20 metre cable
* CCTV warning labels included`
Went on sale Sunday 24th September 2006 at £29.99 each, but details already gone from the Aldi website.
My son got 2 yesterday for me at Castleford (lots available, I`m told) - Well, there`d better be, as these 2 are going straight back for replacement !
One of them has very poor focus, compared with the other one, and there doesn`t appear to be any way to adjust this, even with the protective cover removed, to expose the CCD and electronics.
On the other one, the focus is quite good, but the `Night vision LEDs` are set too far back into the housing, meaning they have a very restricted beam-width, giving a `spotlight` effect, rather than a `widebeam` effect, as the other camera gives, but with its poor focus.
So, 2 cameras - 2 faults !
It just proves the value of `lashing things up` to try them, as I would hate to find this problem AFTER they were fixed to the wall !!
Luckily the nearest shop is only 2 minutes from where I work in Leeds, as I can foresee several visits before I get 2 acceptable units.
