RE: Took the Thomson back..got a Medion from Aldi (£129) BIG thumbs up :)
You must be mistaken you cant get them from Tesco`s they`re from Aldi.
The player in tescos is a Minato not a Medion which doesnt seem as good TBH.
RE: Took the Thomson back..got a Medion from Aldi (£129) BIG thumbs up :)
It plays anything you throw at it yeah.Mp3s (without so much as a hiccup) VCDs/cdr and cdrw and SVCD also.
Dont know about getting hold of them though because Aldi seem to be selling out pretty quick, some stores have loads and some have had none since xmas?
Ive tried EVERYTHING with it apart from RCE titles and its perfect with all of it.Give it a go if your after something cheap that does everything its a nice player for the money.
If you ask in your local shop for one and they havent got any in i`ve known them to order/fetch them from other branches for people so its worth asking even if they arent in stock.
RE: Took the Thomson back..got a Medion from Aldi (£129) BIG thumbs up :)
BTW The Medion DVD Player is based on the STi5505 DVD Decoding Chip from ST-Microeletronics ive managed to find out.
Does anyone know much about this chipset and any possible problems with it ?
RE: I`ve just purchased a Minato G-1 from Tesco
sorry I dont know the actual hack but from what ive read be careful if you find it.I`ve read ppls messages saying they have set it to region 1 and cant change it again to region 2/free because its locked.
So if you do manage to do it set it to region free just to be on the safe side and until you know different dont try to alter it.
try searching the DVDTimes forums for the hack code because im sure I saw a topic about it in there
RE: Took the Thomson back..got a Medion from Aldi (£129) BIG thumbs up :)
1 put the player in standby
2 press standby to turn it on from the handset
3 press open/close to open the drawer
4 key in the code 89269 (9 at the end is the region i.e 9= region free or u can put 1 or 2 etc to set a region )
5 put a region1 disk in the tray (not necessary but useful to test its region free)
6 press play
simple :-)
dunno about RCE titles as I havent got any yet but pls let us know anyone thats tried them in this player
RE: Scan 2000 / Aiwa 730 / LG3200 - What a dilemma !
go and try the Medion MD7950a from aldi,I cant find fault with it for £129
multi region/plays cd`r/rw and mp3 plus has tons of other kool features u only usually find on expensive players.
If u dont like it (which I doubt you will find many faults with it ) you can always take it back after a week or two for a refund when u need to stock up on 3p beans and 6p bread ;P
seriously someone should do a review on this player its surprisingly good.
RE: Took the Thomson back..got a Medion from Aldi (£129) BIG thumbs up :)
Hmm as far as I know its made by medion (obscure german company) but the chipset is a hong kong one.Feels well made and heavy though like german stuff so maybe its a clone of something else rebadged by medion.I dont really know im just guessing???
Forgot to say as well its got volume control on the handset for your pro-logic or home theatre set up,and 3 levels of zoom which is nice :-)
RE: Took the Thomson back..got a Medion from Aldi (£129) BIG thumbs up :)
dont know about macro disable (I doubt it but u never know )
its got connectors on the back for literally EVERYTHING
DD5.1,full 6 speaker set up,s-video port,optical out,co-axial,tons of analog sound outputs

piccy here (not a bad looker)
Took the Thomson back..got a Medion from Aldi (£129) BIG thumbs up :)
I went ahead and bought the thomson 4200 like I said in earlier thread but it ended up skipping and random faults during playback so I got a refund today.
Made my way down to Aldi and bought their Medion player for £129 and.........
Its absolutely FANTASTIC for the price and I arent kidding. The picture is superbly clear with excellent colour and no artifacts or grain.the buildquality is really really good and its a solid built machine with plenty of weight to it (6kg) and it also looks rather nice. The remote is functional and not too bad at all compaired to a lot of so called mid-range machines.
No problems with playback whatsoever and it hacks as easily as the old wharfedale 750,region 1 stuff is perfect with NO lip sync problems at all.
It plays ANYTHING you put in it including mp3s ( it doesnt tell u it plays anything apart from region2 DVDs) which play perfectly and never miss a beat even on nasty 30pence disks burned at 4x.
All in all I cant find fault with this player whatsoever and would happily have payed £200 for it if I had known what its like.Dont know about RCE disks because I havent got any? but its spot on with everything else.Good looks/build and multiregion/Cd-r/RW/Mp3 for £129 :-)
Anyone after an Aiwa 370 and cant get hold of one anywhere get down to your local Aldi NOW and buy a Medion with yer 5pence beans you WONT regret it I promise :-)
RE: Thomson DTH4200.......is it actually any good ???
BTW the region hack was a doddle to do (missus did it for me while I was out LOL)
When u put in the hack though there is nothing displayed on the TV screen until the end when it displayes a 02 at the top corner so it seems as if its not working until then. Its also permanent as well (I read it was temporary).
If anyone else has bought one of these players pls let me know your experiences good/bad
thx :-)
RE: Thomson DTH4200.......is it actually any good ???
I went out and bought the player from argos.....they were out of stock but they had a managers special on the side for £190 :-)
Anyway got it home and the picture is superb on it (better than the warfedale 750 I took back the other day) and I havent noticed it skipping chapters or jumping at all.Mp3 playback is pretty cack and skips like mad constantly but I didnt want it for that anyway I got meh winamp ;D
VCD playback also seems to be clearer than the wharfedale was with less artifacts etc.
Only thing is now I read on a forum about 30 letters about the sammy 611 (same player?) and ppl were all complaining about it skipping and being rather crappy, sometimes after a few weeks when previously fine.
So im a bit worried this things gonna go pete tong after the 16 money back thingy is up at argos but from how it looks now (after playing matrix for 5 hours straight to test it) things look really good with it.
Seems an impressive player for the money, just keeping my fingers crossed that none of the bad stuff comes along to p1$$ things up.
Thomson DTH4200.......is it actually any good ???
I am seriously considering buying one of these babies because of the price drop and its supposed to play pretty much anything you throw at it.Does anyone know where to get a proper review of it though or own experiences of the machine? I really want to know if the picture is up to scratch or grainy pulsating crap like the encore 450
thx in advance :-)
