It Won`t Fit !!

Can anyone help me with this? I`ver downloaded some films on DivX and i`m trying to burn them onto DVD so i can play them on my non-Divx compatible DVD player. I`m using Nerovision Express. I can play the films after i`ve burnt them, that isn`t the problem. The problem is i can`t fit a film of 1hour 50mins onto an ordinary 4.7Gb DVD. I thought you could fit 2 hours onto these discs. It tells me that there isn`t enough space but it can reduce the quality to long play so it does fit. Am i doing something wrong? My burner has dual-layer ability but i`m using ordinary discs. Should i use dual discs instead? AM I USING CRAP SOFTWARE TO DO MY BURNING! If so,,,,,please suggest an alternative?
Thanks for you time and patience in reading this!!

Just bought a DVD recorder for the first time. Got a Philips DVDR3380/05. Seems to work fine.Good results from burning a film i saved on SKY+. Now comes the interesting bit........can i burn a film on one sky channel and watch another at the same time? You obviously can on VCR but i can`t seem to do it on SKY+. Any info would be a great help.

Cheers !!
