RE: Any Sherlock Holmes fans.....

J Mark Oates - thanks for the info and did infact get it from Play.com. Originally my local WH Smiths also had it for £39.99 then they never stocked up again and all of a sudden no-one seemed to have it.

RE: Any Sherlock Holmes fans.....

Does anyone know why the "Definitive Collection" has become so hard to get? Amazon advise to buy it used, HMV say it has now been deleted and other online stores no-longer list it. It still appears on the Optimum Releasing website but seems to have become scarce.

RE: Oritron 600 disc wanted!

Have also had no joy obtaining the update disc.

As a temporary fix you can play the Terminator DVD using any of the following methods:-

1) When the player freezes with the disc just spinning around press the "Active Navigation Mode" button on the remote control. A top graphic menu should appear. Select the clock graphic by pressing the single right-arrow button twice and then press play - the disc should stop spinning. Now select the first graphic (book image - first left), press 1 on the remote control (should display 1) and press play again. Film should now play.

2) Put the disc in and before the menu has change to load and activate the "Active Navigation Mode", press 1 on the first graphic then press play.

3) Put the disc in and as soon as the MGM logo vanishes and again before the menu has chance to load press stop on the remote control. The disc should stop and you see the blank screen. Press play and the film will start by-passing the menu (which does not appear) and should play no problems.

For scene access and subtitles you will have to select using the Active Navigation mode.

Solutions may also work on the Proline 2000, Grundig GDV520 and Schneider 511.

RE: Problem DVDs

The question this raises is how do you solve this? The World Is Not Enough problem suggests 3 possible causes - bad batch, player specific or an April 2001 bug which sounds crazy even though I had no problems with the DVD until April. If it had played-up from the start and with the nature of the problem I would have said it was a bad disc but to work for 4 months and suddenly play-up I can offer no answers.
Ross - on Plunkett and Macleane is the 45 minute mark a layer change? Just wondering if our players do not like the second layer on certain discs.

RE: help proline dvd 2000

Had the same problem once and cured it by turning off at the power plug, left for about 30 seconds then turned on again.

RE: Problem DVDs

This is weird as I also just today had the same problem with The World Is Not Enough on the Proline 2000 and exactly the same place as SirPsychoSexy reported - 32 minutes into the film when they get out of the chopper which is just after the layer change. Corrected itself at first but have problems 44 minutes into the film and so far cannot correct that.
Have had this DVD since Christmas and have had no problems with it up until today yet three of us have experienced the same problem.

RE: Grundig GDV520 incompatibility

Have not heard of a firmware update yet and I know how annoying it would be not to be able to complete the Bond collection.

If as reported the Grundig 520 is a clone of the Proline 2000 there may be a temporary fix until a firmate update is available. Of the four James Bond problem discs (You Only Live Twice, Diamonds Are Forever, Moonraker and The Living Daylights) the Proline 2000 loads the menu okay it is when you try to select the film or special features from the menu that causes the lock-up. If selections are made not using the menu they play okay and every title on the disk can be played. The only item the Proline player could not access was the stills gallery on Moonraker. If the Grundig GDV520 can load the menu without crashing the same could apply.

RE: Schneider 511 Problems

Do not know anything about the Schneider 511 but there was some information a few months back regarding the Oritron 600 and if the Schneider 511 is the same player as the Oritron 600 it could apply here. Unable to confirm though whether this was an isolated incident.

It seemed that certain disks when played on the Oritron 600 needed a clean memory/system - turning the player off completely by the power plug. If many discs had been played and one of these certain discs was put in it would crash the player (more often than not) and there would multicoloured squares - exactly as you described. Once this happened the disc was never able to be played - neither were many others and the only way to cure this was to disconnect from the power. Once this was done everything worked fine, every disc could be played and there seemed to be no problem - again as you have discovered. Many discs could be played without problems it was just a certain few that needed this "clean" environment.

The 3 discs that could crash the player were the James Bond Special Edition titles:- On Her Majesty`s Secret Service, Live And Let Die and For Your Eyes Only - the same 3 discs that the Matsui 110 had problems with. So before playing any of these titles the player was turned off at the mains which was annoying as everything was set to the default settings but this way the machine never crashed.

Hope this helps.

RE: Grundig GDV520 incompatibility

How did you go on with the `You Only Live Twice` problem?

I also had problems with this title but was able to get it to work and was wondering if you had had any luck with it.

RE: Terminator dvd r2 problems

No, I did not have the skipping sound problem.

Seems you have been unlucky on this as so far I have found that once the Proline 2000 is able to play the discs they play faultlessly.

RE: VCD Hack for Proline 2000 DVD

I thought the Proline 2000 could play VCD - maybe not.

The Proline 2000 is reported as a clone of the Oritron 600.

Web site http://allvols.virtualave.net/oritron/vcdV003.htm provides information on enabling VCD for that particular machine. Check it out and see what you think.

RE: Terminator dvd r2 problems

Hi Heather

It seems that unlike the Proline 2000 the Oritron 600 does not lock up at the menu but you still have a problem playing the film. Discovered the web site http://allvols.virtualave.net/index.html and cannot get over how the Oritron 600 is almost identical to the Proline 2000. With your machine instead of using the remote control you could try accessing the film using the Active Navigation mode on the remote control - selecting 1 for title then press play.

You are right about the rumour of an update disc existing for the Oritron 600 but as I have also found with the rumour of the update disc for the Proline 2000 that although the disc is supposed to exist no-one seems to know where you can get it from. I wonder if the same disc would work in both players?

RE: proline 2000 information

Good question. It shouldn`t but I suppose there is always that danger. Would have to make certain before updating.

RE: proline 2000 information

Don`t know of any Region 1 problems but as Cutz2000 mentioned four of the Region 2 007 Special Edition DVD`s - You Only Live Twice, Diamonds Are Forever, Moonraker and The Living Daylights (like The Terminator also from MGM) - have problems. Slightly different with them as opposed to Terminator because their menus load okay. It is when you select something from the menu that the freeze occurs. Again like Terminator could still play the disc by selecting all the features using the Active Navigation mode instead of selecting from the menu. Don`t know if this is specific to MGM titles but by-passing the menus can always get the discs to play.

Have heard an unconfirmed rumour that the menu problems on discs have been fixed. Supposedly the Proline 2000 firmware can be updated by just inserting a disc into the machine and such a disc is believed to exist. CW2000 comments would seem to confirm an update is available as the firmware on my machine is 003 (press menu twice for firmware information). Have e-mailed Comet for confirmation but am still waiting for an answer. If I hear anything will let you know.

RE: Terminator dvd r2 problems

Glad I could help.

As you discovered you have to get it just right. Too soon and stop does not work and too late the menu loads but at least the solution also works on yours.

There is another option I have just discovered to play the movie that might be easier. Again at the MGM logo (or you could try a bit before) press the Active Navigation mode on the remote control and then press 1 - the title indicator (top left) should change to 1 - then press play. Do this fairly quickly and before the menu loads and it will shoot straight to the menu. With this method the disc does not stop and selects the movie smoothly.

RE: Terminator dvd r2 problems

Have exactly the same problem and no idea what is wrong as disc 2 is okay. Have still been able to play the film by not using the menu.

As soon as the MGM logo vanishes press stop on the remote control.
Should see the blank Proline screen. Press play and the film will start (with another MGM logo) by-passing the menu (which does not appear) and should play no problems.

For scene access and subtitles you will have to select using the Active Navigation mode.

Hope this helps.

Proline 2000 - problems with some James Bond titles

Recently purchased a Proline 2000 DVD player and have experienced problems with 3 of the 13 James Bond Region 2 Special Edition titles - You Only Live Twice, Diamonds Are Forever and Moonraker. You get to the main menu okay but from the menu it will not play the movie or be able to access the special features etc. Can get round it by access the titles direct and not selecting from the menu.
As anybody had the same problems?
